Details:
PH101's fourth CD release, "Is Something Wrong Here ?" represents a continuation of the progressive songwriting direction of their previous release, "Love Songs From Area 51," but with some significant differences. There were a number of personnel changes, but the basic sound created by keyboardist Rick Lewis, bassis Brian LaRocque, and guitarist Peter Beckett remained strong. Some of the old guard made their mark, most notably guitarists Aaron Leone and Ray Sorrentino, and drummer Rick Molinaro. The most striking change in the band's sound were brought about by the soaring and supple, blues-and-gospel-tinged vocals of Heather Christian, and the addition of slammin' in-the-pocket drummer Frank DiOrio.
Rick Lewis' songwriting direction veered off deeper into explorations of social satire and dark humor, while at the same time pushing the envelope with complex textures ("Reverend Hate") snaky polyrhythms ("Is Something Wrong Here?"), and genre-bending counterpoint ("Rolling Blackout").
All 'n' all, "Is Something Wrong Here" is a CD full of wild rides & vivid imagery...a satisfying journey for the adventurous listener.
