For bandmates Gary Fisher and Stuart Currie, "Disaffection" has been a long time coming. Having been a labor of love for the past five years, Purveyor have officially released their full length debut for mass consumption; And I've been eating it up big-time! With it's multi-layered effects and warm pads, the aptly titled "Come Near" invited me in to enjoy the show. I couldn't help thinking: Finally, an album composed with enough precision to keep my attention the entire time. I mean really, any band can sit down, program a few arps & leads, and churn out an easy ballad to fill in the blanks. Purveyor however, have been able to create an album that earns it's praise.

A lot of bands fail at trying to recapture the 80's new wave sound, but Fisher and Stuart make it look easy. Dating back to their meager beginnings on mp3.com with "Now One (Around Here)", it was easy to see they had talent from the get go. Oh and all of you old timers who were privilaged enough to hear that original demo back in the days, will be super stoked to find that it's back and completely reworked. In fact, it's their ability to take something old and create something new with it that makes this debut album a success. Each of the eleven studio tracks bring a uniqeness by combining somber vocals and melodies that lead into a chorus big enough to wake up a dancefloor. From ballads to potential club favorites; It's all covered. There's also an amazing remix from Bobby "B.C." Clark of Synthetik FM bringing everything to a proper close.

Be fore-warned though that "Disaffection" isn't going to be for everyone. While I can't say enough good things about it, harsher critics might find it too somber and the arrangements too complicated to get into. However, this is of course keeping in mind that the average music fan these days couldn't tell you what they like and dislike without MTV, Clear Channel Radio, and the latest Gap commercial telling them what's "hawt". Those who don't require a buddy to hold their hand (whether it's in your cd, iPOD, or mp3 player of choice) won't have any problems keeping the dust off of this album.
