Recorded mostly at night by a crew of non-denominational nomads on a Spanish Fleet thirty knots off the coast of Baja. Only two separate acts of violence occurred between the crew while recording. Inspired by a few years on a little island in the center of the universe.

Punch Cody was created out of thin air by Brian Wask, the author of two novels, Fill of Blue (2000) and Nitwit (2003), as well as a collection of short stories, Gone Bad (2002). He is currently in progress on a third novel with a lot of words. He has lived in New Jersey, West Virginia, Jamaica, a 42 ft Ketch, and presently NYC. He wants to move to Italy. Punch Cody: A Demonstration in Audio is his first CD. He plans on recording another CD in the future.

Pat Finnegan co-produced, recorded, mixed, and mastered the music as fearlessly as Ahab himself. Chance Demar tickled his strings during the most vicious storms. Jay Klein suffered but then recovered after an argument with a tuba. Bienert, Rizvi, Wilgus, and Daly gave their lives.

It was hard to make these stories look pretty but Milinda Zumpano wrapped them in a case designed like a classic tale at sea and the inside artwork illustates the vagabond voyage.

The songs hum distant calls from transient souls and remind the
listener Punch Cody believes in many gods.

"Take Tom Waits and Leonard Cohen before they were famous-smash 'em, mash 'em up, crush 'em down to ashes, then blow those ashes out to sea. Empty the sand from your shoes and then hit the local bar to empty your blues... into your glass of Bourbon. When there's no money anywhere in your echoing pockets or wishes left in the fragile bottle, you can call this place home. Follow the sounds of the lonely trumpets and tubas back to the old lady and walk the dog. A true New York original in the spirit of head-spaced classics and gutter born whiskey mystics. I highly recommend."

Ahhhhh. Like a fine hit of acid, Punch Cody's opening track--'The Devil lives in Mexico'--starts us off with that warm, fuzzy--almost hypnotic feeling. The lead vocals come from a Mr. Wask, who's deep groan/whisper of a voice, grows on you as the trip trails on. Songs like 'In a Box,' 'Drink 'til I forget' and 'Dirty, Rotten, Night Creatures' will leave you scratching your head and smiling at your reflection in the back of the black CD case (which, by the way, was masterful designed by a Ms. Milinda Zampano). It's hard to put a broken finger on Punch Cody's influences, but traces of the raw Tom Waits and the infamous Mike Patton are evident in the lyrics and music in this delightfully disturbing debut. In 'The Island', Wask somehow seems to wrap up the slew of misfits that live--and die--in the songs before. If youâre looking to add something a little sick and a little twisted and a little broken hearted to your collection, then by all means--FUCKING PUNCH CODY INTO YOUR BOX!
