When Petroleum's founder Braden sequestered himself to create the band's Digital Vinyl Records debut, Emerge, he meticulously mined the purest elements from industrial, Gothic, alt-rock, punk, metal and experimental, laying down deep, evocative vocals, heavy bass, explosive guitars and mind-altering synthesizers. Shortly after Taylor X (Bass) and Zack Fagan (Drums) arrived rounding out the final element of the band. The band members have a wide variety of musical influences that contributes to the overall sound. The result is a collection of genre-defying yet genre-intensifying compositions, borne of the dark, infinite minds of cyber punks who designed their own matrix. Diverse, yet cohesive, heavy, yet ethereal.
L.A.'s world famous KROQ 106.7FM led the way in breaking the band, pumping Petroleum track's "Drive" and "Emerge". A national radio campaign resulted in the "Emerge" album making the CMJ Radio top 20 list at #16. The "Emerge" album was played on over 250 radio stations across the USA & Canada and made it onto many of these stations top 30 playlist. #1 on New York's WCWP 88.1FM for over 4 weeks. On many stations playlist,Petroleum's music managed to beat out major players such as Radiohead, Weezer, Tool, Staind & Adema. A growing number of Internet radio stations are also fueling their play lists with these extraordinary creative tracks, as well as MTV's "Making the Video" show. MTV is now using the track "Emerge" as their theme song in every episode of "Making The Video". It's been featured in 100's of shows thus far.
Petroleum was awarded runner up for best new artist in the Hard Rock/Metal category at the Boarders "2002 Independent Music Awards". this national competition attracted thousands of band entries. In 2003 Petroleum was nominated for best alternative metal artist in Los Angeles.
With a fresh creative outlook for 2006, the Petroleum sound is really evolving, hence the title to there next album. Expect heavier more dynamic drum arrangements, bigger bass, crunchier distortion guitars, mixed with electronic samples, synths, acoustic instruments, and rounded up by the familiar deep brooding vocals of Braden. Petroleum recently put out a 3 song EP giving a glimpse of what's to come on the next full length. 10 new songs are being worked on with the hope of having a finished product released by summer 2007.
