This is the music of the late forties and early fifties, just before rock 'n roll, when big bands became combos and singers were becoming popular on their own.
14 MP3 Songs
JAZZ: Jazz Vocals, JAZZ: Traditional Jazz Combo
Details:
After WWII, the big-bands of the thirties and forties were struggling to stay afloat. Many of the lead-singers that had performed with these bands struck-out on their own. This was the era of the smaller jazz combo with a couple of horns, and a great lead singer. Rock and Roll had not yet appeared on the scene, but the crowds still wanted music they could dance to, and the 'bebop' style of jazz did not lend itself to that very well. Singers like Peggy Lee, and Sarah Vaugn and Frank Sinatra were making a powerful mark upon popular music.
The Pete Jacobs Quintet tries to capture the music of this great era. The music is great for swing-dancing,
Dancing is what it's all about! Few bandleaders understand - and can deliver - what dancers want better than Jacobs. "My wife and I have spent a lot of time learning as much as we could about swing dancing. I have a real appreciation for what dancers want, because we go out dancing ourselves several times a week. We are avid Lindy-hoppers! I put our set together with the dancers in mind. It doesn't matter how great the musicianship of the band is if you can't dance to it." And the people who flock to every swing music venue they can find overwhelmingly agree!
"The Rose Room" is the first release from the Pete Jacobs Quintet. The featured vocalist is Christi Noel (who also sings with Pete's other band, Wartime Radio Revue, as well as John Tesh and numerous studio session gigs). Pete also sings a few himself.
