Raw power, great songs and treated improvisations from this Seattle-based manifold entity.
12 MP3 Songs
ROCK: Psychedelic, ROCK: Noise
Details:
Paul Lynde Fan Club started, of course, with Paul Lynde himself. Why not name the band after the late television star of their childhood? He had talent, ambition, some bad luck and a drinking problem. The latter, coupled with being flamingly gay at a time when gay was accepted as merely a histrionic form of humor, probably kept him from The Big Time.
The more they thought about it, the more they liked his story and so the name has stuck.
The music leans toward a Stooges-kind of heavy mechanical groove on some songs; a harder punk edge on fast songs; and more of a Velvet Underground influence on the softer material. The lyrics range from the serious to the absurd with a lot of characterization and first-person reporting.
The band features Lisa King and Jim Hunnicutt, founding members of Pure Joy, and Scott Sutherland (The Doll Test, Model Rockets, Chemistry Set). Scott and Jim also play currently in Llama.
