Details:
Paul Koopman was born and raised in Middle America. His upbringing in rural South Dakota, gave him the time and solitude that only feeds the creative mind. âI spent much of my early childhood, playing the piano and taking lessons, mostly letting my mind just wander. My friends would be like, âcome on letâs go hunting or fishing,â but I usually had to keep at the piano practice. My Mom finally agreed to let me quit the piano lessons, (which I hated), If I would learn a new instrument. I agreedâ¦I chose the guitar.â The discipline that he learned from playing the piano, soon transformed Paul into a guitar addict. Though he remained an A student in high school, most of his energy was directed toward writing songs and playing them in a rock n roll band with his high school friends. âThe fact that I could still get good grades, was probably the only reason my folks let me indulge my passion for the guitar and songs so much. Iâve always been a melody nut, people like Paul McCartney, Fleetwood Mac, Neil Young, the Band, and of course lyrics from Bob Dylan, whoâs a Minnesotan.â

His music traveled with him into college where he attained a degree in Communication from the University of Minnesota. â I had this great education, a degree in literature, a wife, and a child on the way. I did the logical South Dakota thing, I laid down the guitar and took a job teaching high school. It wasnât until my marriage started falling apart, that I realized if I was going to survive mentally in this world, I had to plug music back into my life in a bigger way. It was tough. The only things that held my life together at that point were my music and my son.â

In 2003, with a marriage behind him, Paul got together that same old core band of high school musicians he had started with, and took them to Nashville, for what would soon evolve into Paulâs first recording sessions. Producer Jim Casey remembers, âThe first time I heard Paulâs songs, on these funky cassettes, I was hooked. Even though they were pop songs, my country mentality drew me into his great hooks and melody. I had been listening to country songs at our publishing company for five years, and his rock lyrics were some of the best I had ever heard. I knew we had to get this guy recorded.â

Casey and his engineer son, Matt Casey, produced 15 songs
on Koopman and his mates. âWe did it the hard way, with
the musicians he brought,â says Casey. âThough the musicians werenât studio cats, they played with a lot of heart. The only concession I made was to bring in Jim Whitehead and Bobby Wood, two friends of mine who are session keyboard players, to help educate the band on recording techniques and simplicity. Paul is such a great guitarist, he could have made the record with anyone.
I worked real hard at keeping a somewhat adolescent feel and innocence to the recording. We didnât want to squeeze the life out of his songs.â

With this album marks the solo debut of Paul Koopman. A collection of great songwriting set to the hooks and melodies of great pop music. With a vision completed and a dream unfolding Paul continues to play and sing his songs across America relating to audiences with his eclectic guitar styles and soulful vocals. He has a stage presence that is undeniable, and the ability to write great songs as well. Paul is a talented musician, songwriter, and performer. He is also a loving father and husband.

For those that like creative songwriting and great music Paul Koopmanâs âSound on Soundâ is sure to be a listener favoriteâ¦
