Hello, everyone! My name is Patricia Baker. I am a nurse and a published lyricist. I started writing poetry and lyrics 6 years ago. I'm an avid music lover. My tastes range from classical to pop to jazz to country to bluegrass to Celtic to rock and everything in between.

Musically speaking, my father had the biggest influence over me as I was growing up. He was a fiddler until he had a heart attack and then a stroke. He taught himself how to play during his hitch in the Army. His favorite music is bluegrass. I grew up listening to him listen to tapes of Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs, the great Ralph Stanley and Jimmy Martin. He really liked Joan Baez's music, too.

Because he had a large family to support, he wasn't able to play except at occasional VFW dances and bars. Mostly, he just jammed with friends and at home where we were his "audience".

Mom was a big influence, too. She liked Elvis, Patsy Cline, Loretta Lynn, George Jones and Tammy Wynette. At the time, I wasn't fond of bluegrass and country.

I was more into Led Zeppelin, Elton John, Deep Purple, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, the hippie beads, the long stringy straight hair and pale pink lipstick. Then, along came The Eagles, Journey, The Pointer Sisters and Christopher Cross. Then, B.B. King, Percy Sledge, The Four Tops, Diana Ross and the Supremes, Stevie Wonder, Al Green, Barry White, Rod Stewart, The Bee Gee's and that whole Saturday Night Fever thing. Yeah, I loved platform shoes, sequined halter-tops, mirrored disco balls and John Travolta!

As time progressed and I got older, I found bluegrass comforting and familiar. I discovered that I really loved country music. It had a different sound than the "trad" country I grew up with. I'm not knocking "trad" country at all. After all, I love Marty Robbins, Hank Williams, Patsy Cline, Loretta Lynn, Conway Twitty and George Jones. Nobody will EVER take their place. I remember seeing Conway Twitty in person once about twenty years ago. I fell in love with him and his music. He was so REAL. That sort of clinched it for me. It's been a love affair ever since.

For me, the whole point of music is about how it makes me feel inside. It reminds me of my childhood or places I've been. It reminds me of people I've known and things that I've been through. Music is the vehicle I've used to celebrate my life. I never dreamed I'd ever have a cd I could call my own. Life is good. Live it and don't forget to dream!
