Details:
Paula Metzger is a teacher/songwriter who has been a teacher since 1975. Though she has taught grades 1, 3, 6, and music, her 17 years teaching first grade were the driving force behind the album From Snowflakes to Rainbows. She wanted an album that would enhance reading instruction, and at the same time inspire young children to celebrate their world. The album unfolds like a story, starting with an upbeat "Snow!", and moving into "Sky Bears", an imaginative rendition of where snow comes from. The album moves along, introducing children to polar bears, penguins, and eventually groundhogs. The music and lyrics help the children to imagine these animals in their habitats. On her website:www.soundbeginnings.net, many tips are given for integrating the music with noted children's literature, writing activities, art and movement activities, social studies and math. An accompanying teacher resource book can also be purchased. The activities are standards-based, and can be adapted according to developmental stages of the children.
