Crossover of pop, R&B, rock, SOUL, surf and funky cinematic effect etc
10 MP3 Songs
POP: Quirky, URBAN/R&B: R&B Pop Crossover
Details:
international are an unsigned, 'last of the money', âindie budgetâ crossover, of pop, R&B, rock, SOUL, surf and funky cinematic effect etc, that beyond a feature on PBS FM this year, are either not on the radio yet.. or must be and you somehow just missed âI lost my memoryâ, 'Make our own peopleâ, or âThe story of lifeâ, though only by accident.
Regards the music, there are perhaps no easy clues to the dates of composition. The sound and the act is and will be original, fresh, different yet familiar, of wide appeal, thrilling, expressive, soulful, quirky, beautiful, fun, sexy, entertaining and danceable. Itâs just got to, Mister! Potentially, there are commercial 'hits', or Iâll be damned in Hell. Hey, I could be wrong
Paula Jane Reid on vocals: Paula sounds more than a little like Aretha Franklin, Blu Cantrell and Shirley Bassey. Paula also does backing vocals, as well as touring and recording for pro Australian acts like Marcia and Deni Hines and Vanessa Amarosi. She performs regularly with other groups such as Funky Groove Express, Reflections Of, and so on at major venues and corporate shows.
Paula Jane Reid is a great name, don't you think? It's all very sports car on the coast road, with sunlight in her hair, or 'Come in from the porch now, Paula Jane honey, before you catch a cold'. There should be more of these kinds of names in Australia. We have enough room.
Paula Jane is a lot of fun and sometimes often finds the top of her range a good starting point. When I see her on stage, she appears golden and kind of startling especially when her big voice comes out with so much force from her rather petite frame. I wanted a singer that sounded like Aretha and so on, but less restrained! I believe I may have got that in Paula.
I love her singing. Yep, I dig it. It really does give me a thrill and I actually get goose bumps. Like everyone else in the group, Paula is better than the limits of an indie CD. It was ever thus as an unsigned starving band thing. In her other gigs, Paula is often paid in actual money to help with the untold suffering one must endure as a servant of evil commercialism.
On behalf of everyone, international is willing to also accept this burden, especially in the form of cash. Commercialism eh? It could mean that enough people like what you do and are willing to pay you for it, but what do I know.
Miranda Fonda Kiraley on vocals: Miranda has just joined international and is nineteen years old. She has an incredible, soulful and thrilling R&B, Broadway etc, singing voice. I mean, really. I donât think thereâs much that she wonât be able to do vocally. Miranda has a single out, which was written by Jim Steinman of Meatloaf. Sheâs also a student of soul and blues singer, Renee Geyer.
Fallon Williams on drums: Fallon is originally from Chicago. Fallon is the regular drummer for Relax with Max, a soul/R&B/funk act that performs regularly at Maxâs own venue, âThe Night Catâ in Johnston Street, Fitzroy, as well as other venues etc. Fallon does sessions for people and groups such as garbage, members of Crowded House and many others. He works at The Jingle House in Melbourne and runs a small recording studio. In fact, it's so small that he had to rip the wallpaper off to fit the furniture in.
He may have been the only young black guy in his neighbourhood who listened to James Brown and The Carpenters. He left Chicago in a hurry. 'Why do birds suddenly appear, get up off a that thing, tra, la, laâ¦eh?â 'Hey! Thereâs that Carpenters kid! Let's get close to him! Get him! Wait! He listens to James, too man. So let's just beat him a little!' Fallon is a sweet guy and has never kicked a puppy, even when provoked. My four-year-old son Jet starts spinning like a top when he hears Fallon play drums. So do I, actually.
Ric Petropoulos on bass: He seems to have always been a great player and started playing professionally at 16. While still only 16 and performing live at âThe Esplanade Hotelâ, he was asked by Brian Wilson to come to America and do session work. His Greek parents disagreed with this career move. Never, I repeat never, take career counselling from anyone that comes from a country where there may be goats inside the house.
Ric has performed with many pro bands such as Bill Miller/The Ferrets, Kenny Lopez Sex Mambo etc, and toured on the same bill with Blondie, INXS and many others, even though they didnât want him to. As a teenager, he was part of the first Australian band to have a number one in the Australian charts for over 13 weeks.
Ric appeared to me as a Greek God while I was plaintively composing on my lute at a temple on a hilltop, overlooking the Aegean Sea. As the cool afternoon breeze lightly moved the bleached white gauze between the carved stone columns, he said to me, 'Hey mate. Why don't we order a pizza?' Ric is also a Music Major and has composed for string quartets, though none have actually been made of string. Ric is my favourite bass player and Iâm glad to have met him.
Paul Green on guitar and vocals. Paul performed with several groups in Melbourne before finding relief with this group and the incredible Samurai like support from his Japanese wife and his now all Japanese family. Paul needs to do a wide range of styles and believes that with songs like 'I Lost My Memory' etc, he could do theme tunes for James Bond films, or even be James Bond, if he could only afford clothing so that he could leave the house.
This album was recorded using tapes originally recorded with several young indie players. Most tracks were replaced using the above musicians etc, and there you have it. One day weâll use real money to re-record it all, while simultaneously recording a double album with even more catchy songs and range of styles.
Meanwhile, weâre playing around Melbourne and are looking to perhaps add other vocals and instrumentalists, such as keys, trumpet, percussion or guitars etc. Weâre seeking a Manager, as well as investors and business kinds of people. We plan to make opportunities to use our passports as soon as possible. This is still very early days for the group. Weâd like to hear from you, so feel free to write. Paul S. Green.
Ps. Please send any old jewellery, stocks and bonds etc,c/o international.
