Face Frontâ¦I got your back
As we are sitting here thinking of some interesting way to write our 2007 bio, we have come to the conclusion that we just need to tell our story. First, let us state our intentions so that we do not waste anybodyâs time. We strongly believe that our songs are everything; there is no need to pursue anything further if you do not like our music. All of the wonderful and stereotypical ideas associated with rock and roll music are worthless if you do not have great songs; we know that you agree. We are proud of our laundry list of achievements and it is best to just try and put them in some kind of order.
We completed Powerklash, Face Frontâ¦I got your back in the summer of 2006 and, for the next year, we will pursue an advertising campaign through live performances, radio and magazine interviews. These compositions were written and re-written until we were satisfied with each and every section of the songs. Information as to the inspiration for the songs can be found at our website http://www.powerklash.com.
Chris Kosanchuk (bass/vocals) and I (guitar/vocals) have been musicians together for 16 years - give or take a few. Through the years, we have written, produced and marketed several CDâs worth of material. We met in high school, began writing together with a number of different drummers and played live in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware and New York. We have shared the stage with Godsmack, Robert Trujillo (Metallica, Infectious Grooves and Suicidal Tendencies), Dee Snider (Twisted Sister, Widowmaker, 93.3 WMMR) Jake E. Lee (Ozzy Osbourne, Badlands) Familiar 48 (formerly Bonehead), Echo and the Bunnymen, Overkill and others.
We recently acquired one of the best drummers we have ever jammed with and also composed some of our best work to date. Dave Haviland recorded most of the songs on the CD and is the John Bonham of the 21st century. Dave lays a groove down that is so solid that Chris and I can venture into new musical territories, and this, my friends, is what songwriting is all about.
FOX 29 T.V. witnessed the band performing at the Philadelphia Music Conference. A week later, they asked if they could use our song âGlass Ceilingâ. Of course we agreed, and the song was used for FOX 29 T.V Eagles Game Day Live. The segment featured live footage of the band interspersed with clips of the previous weekâs football game. Tons of people watched it and we got a lot of encouraging phone calls. The video caught the attention of a local sports writer who helped eventually to land Rick a gig performing the âNational Anthemâ on electric guitar for the Philadelphia 76rs. The anthem performances lasted four seasons and had Rick performing in front of crowds of 10,000-15,000 people.
In the summer of 2006, we started to pursue television and radio advertising for some of our songs. As a result, 3PW Wrestling also became interested in our song
âGlass Ceilingâ and they used our extremely high-energy tune for their national television broadcasts.
Rick Smith is a Pennsylvania-certified music educator and a member of TI:ME (Technology Institute of Music Education).
Chris Kosanchuk is actively pursuing a career in the recording industry and works at Morning Star Recording Studios in Ambler, Pa.
