3 songs in bandradiolive.com's Top 25
(Saved By Grace, You Are Forever, and On This Hill)
Though now based out of Evangelical Community Church in Cincinnati, Ohio, p s a l t e r b o o k ( meaning "Book of Psalms") was formed in 1999 when a band of musicians who attended White Oak Presbyterian Church wanted to form a small ensemble of highly skilled players whose sole purpose was to glorify God. But in doing so, they realized they wanted to create "...a group with a difference, not just a Christian-song cover band". Since their beginnings as a quintet with the exceptional talents of Jeff Garrett (bass and guitar), Dave Matre (vocals), Jeff Petach (guitar and mandolin), Steve Aldredge (keyboards), and Lori McDonough (flute), psalterbook has expanded to include Matt Frazer (percussion), Sarah Crannell (vocals), Milan Dukic (violin), and, though not featured on this recording, our most recent addition, Christy Thomas harp).
Most of psalterbook's members have trained at some of the world's leading conservatories. On 'age to age' psalterbook is grateful to have been joined by world-class guest musicians Deborah Netanel (cello), Miriam Kramer (violin).
Psalterbook's sound is an engaging blend of contemporary, folk, bluegrass, celtic, and classical styles. This CD, psalterbook's debut recording, includes everything from "bluegrass-ified" 16th century chant to original creations and appalachian lullabies; from richly-textured lyricism to hair-raising virtuoso instrumentals. But most importantly, this collection was meant to express psalterbook's unique musical vision: no matter what century it's from or what style it incorporates, music that praises the triune God is valuable...from age to age.
psalterbook wishes to give a special thanks to Jay Petach from Sound Images (www.soundimages.com) in Cincinnati---one of the most sought-after recording studios in the Midwest--- for producing this CD. He believed in us when it counted. You're the best, Jay!!!!
psalterbook also wishes to give a huge thanks to White Oak Presbyterian Church for allowing us to use their wonderful facilities and lending some assistance to give us that final push to get the 'age to age' project moving. Thanks White Oak!!!
