About "'PICASSO'" the starving artist"
Born in New Haven, Connecticut, February 24, 1979, PICASSO" was raised by a very spiritual and God-fearing Mom and a success-driven Dad. In spite of a positive upbringing, growing up in the streets of New Haven was a difficult and constant battle for PICASSO. Although every effort and energy was put forth by his parents, by age 12, he had already begun having problems in school and with the law.
In 1993, PICASSO was sent to live with his father, who had relocated to South Carolina. There, his behavior didn't seem to improve. After one school term in SC, he was sent back to New Haven, CT to live with his mom.
At the age of 16, he caught his first adult charge for unlawful discharge of a firearm and then possession of narcotics with the intent to sell, resulting in a sentence of 2 years in the Manson Youth Institution. During this time of incarceration, Hip Hop was getting bigger and better, but his future was looking dimmer and dimmer.
While incarcerated, PICASSO saw that his peers were separated by gangs and violence. He recognized that the one thing they all had in common, was Hip Hop. In the rec yard at Manson is where it all happened . . . where some of the most talented rappers from CT showed off their skills.
He wanted to be a contender, so he wrote verses and brought them to the rec yard. Most of the inmates said that "he was whack" or "needed to step it up", but that didn't stop him, it only made him better.
PICASSO was released in 1997. Being in jail had only broadened his horizons and connected him with other felons outside of New Haven. He branched out to other areas, like Ansonia, Waterbury and Meriden to hussle among other things.
In 1999, the game came to a sudden halt for PICASSO. He was arrested and charged with armed robbery in the first degree and a string of other charges. In February 2001 PICASSO was sentenced to 5 years under the 85 law.
Again, Hip Hop was advancing and he was out of the equation. By this time, PICASSO was 22-years-old, 2-1/2 years had passed by, and his writing skills were getting better . . . reaching new heights. Corrections officers, inmates, and counselors were listening and requesting his songs, that they called hits.
Whether PICASSO was battling another MC in the yard, in the cell, or rehearsing his lines, he was known as a story teller.
It was said that PICASSO is âable to paint a picture in a person's mind.â With that same reputation, he became "'PICASSO' the starving artist".
In 2003, PICASSO was released under parole. At this time he began to pursue his career in Hip Hop by performing at The Bar with No Name (Hartford, CT) in freestyle battles, to performing at the Mohegan Sun Casino (Uncasville, CT). He then formed an alliance with his father, venturing out to Hip Hop seminars and laying tracks in the studio.
On March 3, 2005, PICASSO was incarcerated for violation of parole and subsequently released on a term of probation on July 8th. Picasso realizes that in order to make it in the Hip Hop industry, he has to stay out of trouble. Since his release, he has been employed. He continues to proclaim to âmake his mark in Hip Hop!â
PICASSO was discharged from Corrigan Correctional Institution on July 8, 2005. Today, he "makes his mark on Hip Hop"!
