The Band
Pirate Dreams was an experiment put into place 4 years ago by two music store schmoes who wanted to hang out at beach bars in Western New York all summer and get paid to do it. We started out as an acoustic trio playing Jimmy Buffet covers and other stuff that made girls in string bikinis jiggle. After the first summer it quickly escalated into a tropical fixation and a full band for the second and subsequent seasons.
We got tired of only playing cover material and starting writing for ourselves in the Winter 2005-2006. What became of those first sessions is what we have here⦠Listen to the samples and if you like what you hear, buy itâ¦

The Disc

Memento is our first collection of songs (weâre always writing more) and although we encourage you to find your own inspiration in each of them, this is kind of what we had in mind when we wrote them.

Jimmy
Tropical Breeze â Are we guided by destiny or free will? Iâve always thought a little bit of both. Go where you will, explore what you can, experience everything but your Tropical Breeze will always eventually lead you back to where you call home. Donât be afraid to follow it.

Memento â What triggers memories? A keychain in your pocket? A locket around your neck? The faint hint of a certain perfume? Some of the fondest memories I have are triggered by songs and I carry those around in my head.

Palm Tree in Buffalo â This one goes out to the crazy folks up in our home stomping grounds who keep the summer spirit going despite the sometimes extreme changes of weather we experience here in Western New York. As long as the palm tree grows the heat will come from someplace inside and Iâll always be warm.

Erie Serenade â Just about every time Iâve picked up my acoustic over the past 20+ years, this is the song that came out. It just reminds me of kickinâ back, cruising around the parks and beaches in my home of Western New York. The great summer weather, lake breezes, beach bars and having a cold one.

The Fisherman - Story songs are alot like short stories, there's no room for the extraneous. This one is a nod to some of the greats: Steve Goodman, Gordon Lightfoot and certainly Jimmy Buffett

Cool Clean Water - Water is a great metaphor, life can be a smooth sail or a perfect storm, but it's usually somewhere in the middle. Still it's best to know where the lifeboats are.

Saturday Night in New Orleans - This one came to me in a dream after listening to a great band called The Subdues prior to bed. Long live New Orleans!

Pirate Dreams "Adopts" SPCA of Erie County as "Pet" Charity

Pirate Dreams, an area music group known for its tropical songs, summertime themes and Jimmy Buffett tribute, has made a commitment to support the SPCA of Erie County by raising funds for the organization through the bandâs shows and website.


âBuffett fans are known as âParrot Headsâ⦠â, says Jim Jowsey, founder of the group, ââ¦and Parrot Heads are known for their âParty with a Purposeâ ethic. Yes, there are margaritas, rum drinks, palm trees, grass skirts and a general sense of relaxed mayhem, but if you can take all that energy and apply it towards something positive, then youâre ahead of the game.â Pirate Dreams has been around for over 4 years, has developed a solid following and decided it was time to put that following to good use.

Being an owner of 4 dogs, two of them adopted from the SPCA, the choice of what charity the band wanted to support was obvious. âThe SPCA has always been near and dear to my heart.â says Jowsey âand I feel that animals are an important part in so many aspects of our lives.â

Pirate Dreams has pledged a donation of $2 for every copy of their CD âMementoâ sold, be it at shows, from their website or other online vendors such as CDBaby.com and Itunes. The band will also give fans the opportunity to participate in fund raising activities such as 50/50 and prize raffles at live shows. The bandâs website, www.piratedreams.com will keep a running tally of funds raised and donated and give fans the chance to see exactly how much they are helping. Jowsey says âI think itâs important to let people know exactly where their contributions are going, weâll keep track of peopleâs contributions for all to see on the website, itâs not how much is contributed but how often and I definitely think over the course of time we can raise some serious money.â
