José Raul "Lips" Morales' Tumbaito y Trompeta is one of the most refreshingly original and creative
Salsa productions I've heard to date. Offered up with the deepest respect for Latin music's grand and mighty
traditions, these no-nonsense, heavy-hitting tracks--from those sizzling numbers tailored to the dancer, to the
tasty and elegant bolero, to the interspersed street pregones that bring back childhood memories to Morales and countless others--are timeless in appeal.
16 MP3 Songs in this album (49:44) !
Related styles: Latin: Salsa, World: Afro-Beat, Mood: Upbeat

Details:
Jose Raul "Lips" Morales was born in Panama Lived in Puerto Rico and moved to New York City, he performed his first solo in New York City's esteemed Carnegie Hall at the tender age of ten, his budding career guided by his father, Israel "Isy" Morales, former original Conjunto Internacional de Quique Lucca (Sonora Ponceña) trumpeter, and noteworthy arranger. The younger Morales, nicknamed "Cheo/Little Man," and "Lips," (the latter earned as a result of the buzzing sound he produced as he developed his embouchure), went on to become a member of his father's South Bronx-based Orquesta Guarionex, a band that opened for legends--the Machito Orchestra, La Sonora Matancera, and Pete "El Conde" Rodriguezâas it worked its way through the "Cuchifrito Circuitâ.The José Raul Morales Orquesta, featured vocalists Hermán Olivera, Luis Acevedo, and Eddy Valdés, and core musicians Jorge González (of Ruben Blades and Spanish Harlem Orchestra fame), Hector Torres, René Leyva, Tom Brown, Chino Moreno, Eddie Muñiz, and Wilmor Vega. Morales freelance credits include working with the Cholo Rivera Conjunto, the Ray Jay Orquesta, the Tony Cofresi All-Stars, Los Hermanos Colón,The Salsa Machine, Marvin Santiago, Ismael Miranda, Paquito Guzmán, Luisito Carrion, Hector Tricoche, Adalberto Santiago,Nino Segarra, Pedro Conga, and Rey Ruizâjust to name a few! The soulful and smooth trumpeter, who to this day considers himself a student, also studied Jazz at Long Island University, and at the Kaufman Center for Jazz, with Roni Ben-Hur, and remains a veteran of our music who has fought in the trenches for years, to keep our music alive.
Now, here he is, presenting, in his words, "never released recordings of yesterday and today"âall father/son arrangements, combining the skills and experience of two generationsâ, as you'll see when you check out the credits, some of Salsa's finest players.
