Details:
This score is the breakthrough musical experiment in sweeping orchestral timbres and African tribal vocals. Director Wayne P. Allen approached Mark Edward Lewis, the composer, and suggested that an African vocal sound might be a fitting complement to the stunning visuals of millions of butterflies flittering about the screen. Upon reflection, Mr. Lewis realized that the merging of an African flavor with his unwavering ability to create powerfully emotional orchestral music was a temptation that he couldn't resist.
Employing the talents of Judith Hill, Alvin Chea, Randy Phillips and Edie Lehamann Boddicker in the roles of the African vocal sound, Lewis brought about a combination of musical styles that is not only innovative, considering the subject, but moving and artistically beautiful. Lewis expertly layered the singers many times and created a choral sound using various recording techniques including changing the singers' tonal production, changing the distance from the microphones and other digital enhancements. He is no stranger to creating choirs out of singular persons, since, with his voice alone, he expertly created and recorded a male choral arrangement of the United States' nation anthem in tribute to the Navy's most decorated officer Commander Peter Mongilardi (available on Youtube), and created an entire choir for an upcoming Illustra Media production with only the voices of a friend and himself.
Sadly, shortly after the vocal recording sessions, Randy Phillips, the tenor of the group, passed away. Mr. Lewis and the Producers of this film hope that his spirit is lifted each time this score is played as his joyous voice is heard prominently.
Mr. Lewis also composed the scores for many Illustra Media films and are available at digital distributors worldwide including "The Case for a Creator," "The Case for Christ," "The Case for Faith," "The Privileged Planet," "Unlocking the Mysteries of Life," "Prophecies of the Passion."
