Christian Maurer (A), Primus Sitter (A), Marc Abrams (USA) und Herbert Pirker (A) unternehmen diese gemeinsame Reise auf einfühlsame und gleichzeitig individuelle Weise â vier international versierte Musiker auf neuen Wegenâ¦

Four internationally experienced musicians together embarking on a voyage in a cooperative but individual way ⦠and uncharted course.

The musical encounters between Christian Maurer and Primus Sitter began about 15 years ago. Primus Sitter has played in Christian Maurers âUpper Austrian Jazz Orchestraâ since 2005. Soon the idea was born to combine their musical worlds in the more flexible quartet constellation. Since they both also compose, this was an essential point on the musiciansâ way toward establishing an unmistakable unified identity. With Marc Abrams (played with Chet Baker, Gil Evans,..) and Herbert Pirker (Hans Koller Preis 2004) a rhythm section is created which is able to effortlessly cover the scope of styles between traditional and modern in a personal way. Jack Walrath works regularly with the UAJO and Christian Maurer since 1999. The CD âYou got my wife, but I got your dogâ in 2001 is fruit of this collaboration. After several concerts, one discovered that Jack Walrath was the ideal voice to extend the quartet with a second wind instrument to a quintet. Jack, (a diligent composer already for Charles Mingus, the WDR. NDR, and UMO big-bands as well as the Brooklyn Symphony Orchestra), contributes compositions to the program. The resulting CD âUmatschakaâ was published in 2008.

PRIMUS SITTER (Gitarre) ist/war mit eigenen Projekten oder als Sideman tätig in Österreich, Deutschland, Schweiz, Italien, Slowenien, Kroatien, Portugal, Polen, Niederlande, Türkei, USA, Mexikoâ¦
Nösit, Upper Austrian Jazz Orchestra, Manfred Weinbergers âAustria meets Canadaâ, Trio Süd, Couch Ensemble, Oliver Groenewald Newnwet, Theatercafe Direkt, Primus Sitter Five, Soul What, Austrian Jazz Orchestra,⦠Zusammenarbeit u.a. mit: Peter Herbert, Alex Deutsch, George Garzone, Wolfgang Puschnig, Willi Resetarits, Erich Kleinschuster,â¦Preisträger beim âInternational Heritage Jazz-Guitar-Competitionâ 1996 in Nashville/Tennessee, USA

MARC ABRAMS (bass) wurde 1958 in New York geboren, wohnt seit etwa 15 Jahre in Venedig.

Jack Walrath started playing the trumpet at the age of 9 in 1955 while living in Edgar, Montana, a bustling metropolis with the population of 100 (It has since become virtually a ghost town!). He developed a healthy perception of music from lack of negative peer pressure which so often happens in cities. In, 1964 after graduating from Joliet, MT. Highschool, he attended the Berklee College of Music graduating in 1968 with a composition diploma. The diploma program was chosen over that of the degree in order to have classes only of music, therefore actually learning more about music than if he went for a degree! Also he considers his 40 years of major professional experience as the best education of all!

âOne of the most continually compelling soloists and leaders in all of jazz.â
Nat Hentoff
âOne player who started his career in Mingusâ last band was Jack Walrath, who has emerged in latter years as a composer and organizer astonishingly on a par with the master.â
Stephen M. Stroff
Discovering Great Jazz
Newmarket Press N.Y.
âHis playing has the articulate sarcasm of a Lee Morgan, his writing reflects the eclecticism and bravura of his former mentor Charles Mingus.â
