Pretty the Quick Black Eyes began its gestation period as a studio collaboration and ping-pong tournament between Scott David McCarver and Joshua Merritt. Fueled by black-and-tans and a lethal dose of pessimism, the pair combined McCarver's forceful, between-the-lines guitar hooks with cryptic synth attacks.
Joshua Kerr (bass) and Terry Irwin (drums) brought to the lineup a spectacular clash of fluid motion and artfully
crafted rhythmic chaos. The newly assembled Pretty the Quick Black Eyes made its live debut on the Fourth of July, 2002 opening for hometown friends The Gloria Record.
Produced by Rory Phillips (The Impossibles), the self-titled EP was originally released in November 2002. Following the release, the band continued its regional live assault playing with notable bands including Cursive, Elliott, Elefant, Fiery Furnaces, and The Jealous Sound.
Winter 2006 finds PTQBE back at the mixing board tracking a long overdue full-length record of previously unreleased material. If the EP was a young and wintry landscape, the full-length promises to be a glorious fire, poised for brilliant destruction and rebirth.
