Details:
Bob Dylan strode into New Yorkâs Greenwich Village during the harsh Winter of 1961. Throughout the ensuing decades heâs been a troubadour, a protest singer, a psychedelic poet, a blues man, born-again, an aching romantic, a weary sage and he has written as all of these, fearlessly and powerfully.
Faced with the almost impossible task of narrowing down material for this record, I felt it best to let the songs choose themselves. With almost 500 songs to choose from there was only one thing to do. I listened and listened, and I played and played. And here are the songs that wanted to be sung. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.
I am filled with gratitude for the people who made this recording possible and for the wonderful musicians who brought this vision to life. Thank you for all the joy you have brought me and thanks most of all to Bob Dylan.
I sang all the tunes and played acoustic guitar and harmonica. The other players are John Platania, my producer, and long time Van Morrison guitarist. He has over the years lent his talents to Randy Newman, Judy Collins, Bonnie Raitt, Chip Taylor and Don McLean among others. John played guitars of all kinds as well as some banjo. Gary Burke played drums ...you may know his name from his stints with none other than Bob Dylan himself and his long time association with Joe Jackson and Graham Parker.
