Details:
Originally conceived as a doo-wop group, with a line-up featuring Gilbert Moorer, Alvis Moorer, and Betty Moorer, the soulful Esquires were briefly augmented by Harvey Scales before Sam Pace joined in 1961. In 1965 Betty Moorer was replaced by Shawn Taylor. The group then moved from Milwaukee to Chicago, where they signed to the Bunky label, produced by Bill 'Bunky' Sheppard. Their exciting brand of 1960s soul music featured a high-falsetto lead backed by right-on group harmonies. An original song, âGet On Upâ, was recorded with the help of Millard Edwards, who sang its distinctive bass line. Edwards became a permanent member when this infectious single was a big smash in 1967.
