After his first tutoring experience in Southeast, D.C. during college, i.c. knew he had to become a part of the growing movement for educational equity. He joined Teach for America, the national teacher corps, and moved to New York City to teach in the Bronx. Now in his 6th year as an educator, Will is teaching 5th Grade Writing at a public KIPP (Knowledge is Power Program) school in Harlem.

Perhaps because of all the time he spent pushing kids to work hard and follow their dreams, i.c. never let go of his own dream to be a successful rapper. This was a dream that started back when he recorded his first songs at age 14 in Louisville, Kentucky. As i.c. found his place in the education world, artists and teachers who heard his skill encouraged him to continue rapping while fully owning the adventure that is any New York City teacherâs daily life in his lyrics. Now, as educational equity is increasingly viewed as a national priority (controversy?), i.c.âs content is becoming even more potent. By following his own unique dream, he hopes to further encourage, inspire, and empower others to follow their own.
