BOB WILLS & HIS TEXAS PLAYBOYS never toured in New England, but his western swing music got through anyway. And now a group of devoted fans in Massachusetts has recorded western swing in an exciting new way!

On this fresh heartfelt tribute, âGoodbye Liza Jane: Hello Western Swing,â producer-musician Peter Ward and the Lone Pine Western Swing Band with special guest â steel guitar legend Herb Remington, an original Texas Playboy â set out to record songs the way Bob Wills would have liked them ⦠direct and honest with a beat you can dance to.

Judging by the early reviews, they succeeded.

Peter Ward of Melrose, Mass., traveled to Turkey, Texas and Tulsa, Oklahoma where Wills fans still celebrate the music. There he met idols guitarist Eldon Shamblin, Bobâs brother Luke Wills, drummer Johnny Cuviello, bassist Joe Frank Ferguson, singer Leon Rausch, pianist Clarence Cagle and Tommy Duncanâs brother Glynn Duncan.

âAfter years of listening to everything Bob recorded that was commercially available, I decided I wanted to show my appreciation to Bob, Tommy Duncan and all the Playboys for making music that consistently made me happy for so long,â said Ward, a native of Lewiston, Maine. âIâm especially honored that Herb Remington agreed to play on my CD. Heâs spectacular.â

At the annual Bob Wills Day in Turkey in the 1990s, Wills biographer Charles Townsend signed his book, âSan Antonio Rose,â for Ward: âI donât get to sign many books for people from Massachusetts.â

On âGoodbye Liza Jane,â Peter Ward and the band âhave not compromised Bob Wills style one iota in order to appeal to a modern age,â said Townsend. âBob would never compromise either.â
