Details:
A fixture on the music scene since moving to Oregon in 1990, Laura Kemp has gained a reputation as one of the finest performers on the west coast. Over the past 20 years she has produced 6 studio and two live CDâs, and has won the Eugene Weeklyâs annual poll for Best Singer-Songwriter too many times to keep track of.
With musical interests that span anything from folk to bluegrass to jazz to kirtan, and accompanying herself on guitar, harmonica, banjo, and harmonium, Lauraâs musical style is not one to be pegged down, though it is largely rooted in folk and influenced by her time spent living in Nashville and North Carolina. She began playing guitar at the age of 8, performing every chance she could get, including while living in Germany in 1987, honing her skills in Irish pubs and busking in the streets. Since then, she has performed on numerous stages throughout the country, from Passim in Cambridge, MA and CBGBâs Gallery in NYC, to The Great American Music Hall in San Francisco, Bumbershoot Festival in Seattle, and the main stage of Eugene's Oregon Country Fair.
These days you can hear her playing in a variety of configurations: as a dynamic solo artist who can easily hold her own in any performance setting; fronting the Laura Kemp Band with Brian West on drums, Elijah Copeland on upright bass, and Jeremy Wegner on mandolin and banjo; or with her alter-ego band, Three on the Tree, a jazz standards trio with guitar, bass, and saxophone.
With songs that range from sassy rockers to ballads, covering topics from pets to television and every angle on love imaginable performer extraordinaire, "Laura Kemp (has the) ability to make an audience chuckle, tear up, and feel an instant connection with her lyrics - all in the course of one song." San Francisco Bay Guardian
When she is not touring, writing, recording, or teaching guitar, Laura keeps her hands dirty in her organic garden or has a backpack on her back, exploring the mountains of the great Northwest.
