Our album is the result of three and a half years of work.
Every rhyme was written as if it were our last. Every note in these instrumentals was from the heart.
It took us a lot of time to make sure that each song would sound just like we imagined it at first.
And they surprisingly turned out into something greater as they grew up and developed.
From writing the lyrics to making the beats, we gave it all to never lose focus.
The recording part was the best: we couldn't help not to lose ourselves and spit our souls through words.
The feeling standing behind the microphone was just great!
Of course, it wasn't smooth all the time. We had our challenges and problems.
At times we would stay in the studio recording until after hours.
We had to keep at it and make sure that each track had the best, realest vibe as possible.
But now that our CD is done, listening to each track makes us feel like every minute was more than worth it.
There are no words to describe the feeling of seeing your hard work and effort pay off. It is very fulfilling and satisfying.
When we were developing the album's concept we felt like we needed to reach our own people, the people who understand the brazilian culture and lifestyle.
We also thought that it would be nice to communicate with people from other cultures because we believe in diversity, freedom and cultural exchange.
And there was no better way to do it rather than a bilingual CD. This is why our album has six songs in Portuguese and eight in English.
I (Da Gusto) always had a strange attraction to English so by the time I was fourteen I was already giving an attempt at writing my first rap in a foreign language.
Leo has always been a big fan of international rap. He enjoys listening to songs in English just like I do. Both Leo and I grew up surrounded by music.
Leo used to sing, play bass and eletrical guitar at local music festivals and gigs with some of his friends. I grew up listening to rap, writing rap songs
and freestyling at school, parties and among friends. It didn't take long until we got together and hit the studio to record our first three songs in 2007.
Since then, we have made a few appearances in public where we performed mainly cover songs.
Both Leo and I were always attached to music and the idea of being responsible for your own future.
So in 2009, we decided to change our duo's name and start a brand new project.
This is when Likey becomes AL47 and Going For The Gusto slowly comes to life.
My and Leo's similar musical background and our principles were key to realizing that we needed to unite and make something different. Talk about different, it is very hard to describe our CD. Is it just common rap? Is it a political or a spiritual critique?
Is it alternative, maybe? It is just too hard to define.
Our songs are extremely emotional and we don't fit in any particular style. Some songs are aggresive kind of gangsta, some are funny, some are poetic and philosophical, some are political, some are hopeful and cheerful, some are reflexive and thoughtful while others are love satires.
I could go on and fill this page with adjectives but I think you should see it yourself! Hear it yourself!
If a picture is worth a thousand words I can assure you that a song is worth a thousand pictures!
Plus the mixing and masterizing of this CD is barely flawless. You can hear each instrument and sound individually and at the same time hear them all,
including the voice which is as clear as a crystalline stream. I guarantee you the quality of these fourteen songs is at the same level as
any famous artist's song you see on TV or hear on the radio. But I will let you say the verdict and express your own opinion!
All I can really tell you for sure is that this CD is a passionate piece of work, made with dedication, care and love.
This piece of art is a piece of ourselves. It represents our artistic beginning as rappers in the twenty first century's rap industry.
It is the living proof of what we stand for. It is the gun that we use in the hip-hop business war against fake, fabricated, boring and
pathetic artists who claim to be rappers when they are actually pop singers. We will stand against the showbusiness alienation and 'rappers' full of gimmicks.
We will fight for our ideals because we are loyal hip-hop heroes. We came to make a change and the change starts now.
