In the fall of 2010 I found out that the teenage son of musician friend of mine had been diagnosed with Hodgkins Lynphoma. I was shocked and saddened to see such a promising young man stricken. However, the prognosis was good and the family had a lot of hope and the young man had a lot of support from his friends, his school and his family.

Jâétais choqué et attristé quâun jeune homme à lâavenir aussi prometteur soit touché. Toutefois, le pronostic était bon. La famille avait beaucoup dâespoir et le jeune homme, beaucoup de soutien de la part de ses amis, son école et ses proches.

And then I found out that the teenage daughter of another musician friend had been diagnosed with the same disease. Wow...cancer in young people...it's scary, it's an affront to life and makes you think about what you're doing with you're own life.

Peu de temps après, jâai appris que lâadolescente dâun autre ami musicien avait elle aussi reçu un diagnostic pour la même maladie. Le cancer chez les jeunes⦠câest terrible. Câest un affront à la vie et ça vous fait réfléchir à ce que vous faites de la vôtre.

Well both young people were being treated at the Montreal Children's Hospital and I wondered what I could do to help that excellent institution.

Ces deux jeunes ont été traités à lâHôpital de Montréal pour enfants et je me suis demandé ce que je pourrais faire pour aider cette excellente institution.

Fundraising through music is what I came up with.

I had previously recorded the song with my buddies Paul Johnson, Peter Marunczak and Will Crowdis partly in my garage and partly in Will's tiny apartment studio in Montreal West.

Jâavais déjà enregistré la chanson avec mes copains Paul Johnson, Peter Marunczak et Will Crowdis, en partie dans mon garage et aussi dans le petit appartement-studio de Will dans Montréal-Ouest.

It got a little airplay from Mitch Melnick on his sports talk show but really didn't go anywhere.

To generate interest and have it "go viral" (hopefully) I decided I needed a YouTube video that would drive traffic to a download site.

Through Craigslist, I recruited a local filmmaker named John Pravin...and we were off.

À lâaide de Craigslist, jâai recruté un vidéaste local : John Pravin... et voilà, câétait parti!

We staged a hockey game in early February with my buddies from the Pointe-Claire Oldtimers Hockey Club on an outdoor rink. It was a beautifully sunny morning for the shoot followed by ice cold beer and my wife's spicy chili. We shot the music scenes in my garage with a couple of spotlights and a smoke machine. Lloyd Curtis filled-in on guitar for Will who had moved to Nova Scotia.

Au début février, avec mes copains du Oldtimers Hockey Club de Pointe-Claire, nous avons organisé un match sur patinoire extérieure. Câétait un magnifique avant-midi ensoleillé pour le tournage, qui sâest terminé par une bonne bière froide et le chili épicé de ma femme. Nous avons tourné les scènes musicales dans mon garage, avec quelques projecteurs et une machine à fumée. À la guitare, Lloyd Curtis a remplacé Will, déménagé en Nouvelle-Écosse.

John did the direction and all the editing. I helped as best I could with my wonky story board and lots of suggestions.

John sâest occupé de la direction et du montage. Jâai aidé autant que jâai pu avec mon scénario-maquette approximatif et beaucoup de suggestions.

Now thanks to the treatment they received at the Montreal Children's Hopsital, the two young people I spoke of earlier have been declared free of cancer and have re-started normal teenage lives.

Aujourdâhui, grâce aux traitements quâils ont reçus à lâHôpital de Montréal pour enfants, les deux jeunes dont je parlais plus tôt sont en rémission complète et ont commencé à vivre une adolescence normale.
