As a songwriter and a performer, Poldo Castro played a vital role in post-Latin & Folk music. Although he didn't become recognized until the early-'80s, Poldo Castro spent the '500s writing songs that became hits for stars like Tito Rojas, Millie Quesada, Andy Montañez, Puerto Rican Power, Dimensión Latina, Toño Rosario, Víctor Manuel, Sergio Vargas, Elvis Crespo, Rey Ruiz, Nino Segarra, Tony Croatto, Vicente Carattini, Cantores De Puerto Rico, Katraska, Grupo Jataca, Giro, Gianko, Chucho Avellanet, Los Hispanos, Luisito Carrión, Tito Allen, Cheo Feliciano, Gilberto Santarosa, Willie González, Orq. La Mulenze, Pedro Conga, Alex DâCastro, David Pabón, Héctor Tricoche, Grupo Toco Madera, and many more. Poldo Castro as well as releasing a series of (11) records on TH Rodven, Caytronics, Farum Records, Solar/Hines Co. Rota Records, Combo Records, and Casber Music that earned him a small, but devoted, cult following. During the lately '70s. Poldo Castro aligned himself with Frank Ferrer and the TH Rodven Company that made him into a recognizable composer & musician in 1978.

Poldo Castro began performing music as a child growing up in Bayamón Puerto Rico. Poldo and his brother Vicente were raised by their parents, who encouraged both children to play instruments. Poldo picked up the guitar, and by the time he was fourteen, he was already writing songs and picked up the bass-guitar.

Poldo never played it safe musically. Instead, he borrowed from a wide variety of styles, including pop, jazz, traditional country, holiday songs, rock & roll, folk, and latin salsa, creating a distinctive, elastic hybrid.

âBorinquen Mi Madre Tierra, Borinquen Mi Madre Patriaâ(1978), Poldo Castro's first album for TH Rodven, was evidence of the shift of his musical style, and although it initially didn't sell well, it earned good reviews and cultivated a dedicated cult following.
By the fall of 1979, his version of "Juana Morales" had cracked the country Top 40. The following years, he delivered the concept album Tradición and Salseando, which increased his following even more with the hit singles "No hay Mal Que Dure 100 Años" and "No Existen Diferencias." But the real commercial breakthrough didn't arrive until 1990, when he severed ties with TH Rodven & Caytronics and signed to Combo Records, which gave him complete creative control of his records. Poldo's first album for Combo, Sentimiento Isleño, was a spare concept album about a mix of rhythms, featuring his voice and orchestra. The label was reluctant to release with such stark arrangements, but they relented and it became a huge hit, "Jíbaro Rap."

Poldo Castro enjoyed his most successful year to date in 1990, as he charted with two very dissimilar albums. Poldo Castro Sentimiento Isleño, his first smash hit album with Combo Records, was a major success early in the year, spawning the signature song "Jíbaro Rap." Later in the fall of 1991, he released âEsa Es Nuestra Navidadâ with Alpha lV and Louis García Orquestra, a string-augmented collection of latin pop standards produced by Poldo.

Poldo continued to have hits throughout the early '90s, when he had a major composer success in 1992 with a album of Tito Rojas's hit "Condéname a Tu Amor & Porque Este Amor." Those singles spent over five weeks at number one and crossed over to number five on the pop charts, sending the album of Tito Rojas to number one on the latin charts as well as platinum status.

Following a string of number one singles in early 1992, including "Perdido," the first single from Alex DâCastro, âSi Supierasâ from Pedro Con & Orquestra, *Amor Lunáticoâ by Giro. A new generation of artists had captured the attention of his songs and started record his compositions had captured The Latin Audience, which began to drastically become into his own audience. For the remainder of the decade, he recorded less frequently and remained on the road.

Amazingly prolific as a recording artist, Poldo Castro released âTrópico Breeze on Casber Music in early 2010. A collection of his early-'90s publishing demos for Pamper Music called Mi Tierra: The Demo Sessions came out on Telesound Studios in 1991.
