Hector began to play the piano at five years old. Even at that age he played his own melodies. When he was about 10 years of age he began taking piano lessons at the school he attended. He later studied with James Crisafulli.

Hector played with Jack Castanso, a noted Latin Jazz percussionist. Also, Carmello Garcia (who was the percussionist during the late 60âs and early 70âs for Mongo Santamaria) offered Hector to play the piano with him as well.

During the mid-seventies, Hector joined with âOrquesta Sivaâ who played in concert with the Rolling Stones at the Forum in 1974, and Tito Puente in 1976. Beginning with the 1980âs through February 2006 his main focus was in his teaching career. However, he still continued to compose music and play with local bands in the Los Angeles area. He has composed well over 100 musical themes. In the late 1970âs, Hector composed an orchestral score for Don Quixote performed at California State University Los Angeles.

He also studied at the Dick Grove School of Music which included orchestration classes with Dr. Albert Harris.
