ROCK: Classic Rock, ROCK: 70's Rock
Details:
Named after the title character in the teenage classic, "Catcher In The Rye," the band's resemblance to J.D. Salinger's brooding figure ends there. Together since 2001, Tom Cantillon, Johnny Puailoa, and Dan Moore, spent little time in the classroom after they got together in high school in Cantillon's garage to play music. With the regional success of their first album, Hot Lunch Wednesdays, the trio did something a little unconventional for high school seniors: they boarded a bus and took off across the country to play music for other high school students. It's a formula that has worked well for the band, and they have accomplished what few "garage bands" actually do. They got out of the garage.
Touring for the past two years, and performing at over 200 high schools around the country, Holden has sold over 10,000 copies of their albums and have over 70,000 online downloads.
Tom Cantillon (lead vocals and bass guitar) was born on September 24, 1986; Johnny Puailoa (lead guitar and backing vocals) was born on April 21, 1985; and Dan Moore (drums and percussion) was born on August 10, 1985. The friends and musicians have also taken their talent to state fairs around the country, playing to passerby crowds of 85,000+.
In addition to all that, they run their own merchandise, website and bookings, and put their first record out independently at 15/16-years-old, from their hometown of Santa Barbara, California. Ohâ¦and they graduated from high school just weeks after returning from tour, where they did homework and took finals on the bus.
A cover story on a local entertainment weekly touted them as "Holden... out for fame," but they're just having fun playing music and meeting the people who support it.
