BlueFolkSwingRockCountryRapGrass ... with a twisted sense of humor.
10 MP3 Songs
FOLK: Modern Folk, COUNTRY: Bluegrass
Details:
Uncle Eddie and his banjo have been a force in West Virginia music for over thirty years. Not just another folk 'n bluegrass musician, he applies his wildly imaginative banjo playing and velvety baritone voice to what he terms "plunk rock". Through regular appearances on the WWVA Jamboree, the hard core traditional Bluegrass of the Short Crick Flatpickers, and his more recent cutting edge explorations with West Virginia's premier jam band, The Recipe, he respects and preserves the rich musical traditions of the region while keeping it alive and evolving by taking it to new and unexpected places. This effort focuses on his dryly witty and insightful lyric writing and his ability to blend influences from a wide variety of musical genres.
The Songs:
Never Really Loved You - A folky love song from the denial phase following a failed relationship ... but I'm not bitter.
Banjer Playin' Fool - Loosely autobiographical ... very loosely.
Dead in the Water - A blues/rock epic about those moments in all of our lives when very suddenly we realize we're screwed.
Plain White Rapper - or ... 'In Defense of Rap Music as a Viable Form of Artistic Expression For the New Millenium' ... need I say more?
Here I Am Sober - A 70's outlaw country drinkin' ballad.
West Virginia Farm - A bittersweet eulogy for a dying way of life.
Let 'em Eat Cake - Social/political commentary using the tuba to express sonically what I think of politicians and the government.
'Rap'sody in Bluegrass - Thoughts on the state of Bluegrass music.
When Grandma Played the Tuba - A nostalgic look at a bygone era when family bands ruled country music.
Cruisin' for a Bruisin' - A barroom love story.
