The Exercise in Levitation session took place in the Summer of 2009 in Woodstock & Phoencia, New York. Ken 'Jelle' Coulson & Ray Bryant of Kite, along with Ray's wife Kim Bryant (of Other Corner Jug Band "OCJB" ) along with drummer Hari Ganglberger, Film and Photog "Babs" Maia and Engineer/Collaborator Alex Theoret returned to site of the debut Kite sessions a year prior. The trio's playing had evolved as had their relationships and openness with there songwriting and musicianship. The result was a rhythmic maelstrom of funk and deep grooves support what their fans were hailing as their most honest song writing. Ray's prowness on the fretless bass can really be heard on EIL and it's sibling, Future Perfect. Jelle's guitar dances across the track Puppets and the growth in the pair's vocals can be heard throughout the album. The sessions, originally intended to be one album, naturally split for the release of Future Perfect (2010, "Kite's Lost album") and the remainder kept the original title and Kite's crowds favorites: Puppets and Siren's Song. Kim's vocals, featured on Nuke The Sun on Kite's Debut, also became the "Siren" during the equally haunting and uplifting middle section of Siren's Song (a Poem penned by Jelle by the water one day). Also featured, on the track Make It Happen, are Franchessca Flores and Becca Beisler on Vocals.
The band considers EIL as a watershed event in a period of short but intense work and exploration into their ability to channel music for the earth. The philosophy and freedom sought by the Kite project can best be summed by lines from the song Avenue, ' You can take what you want from me,. All I am is what I leave '. Etched on the gear and the faces of the band as they perform are a desire to connect and growth with the audience, in aware with the planet, and the power of music. EIL is an album to be enjoyed from start to finish and then back again,. Journey onwards
