I don't typically write songs of a political nature, but the only rule I follow when I make music is to go wherever inspiration leads me, so here we are! This song is a social commentary on how greed within our own system contributed to our current financial crisis. There's plenty of finger pointing and scapegoating going on these days, but I believe the problem is largely American made. From corporations shipping the bulk of our manufacturing jobs overseas in order to increase profit margins for executives at the cost of their workers' jobs, to mortgage companies writing mortgages they know their clients can't afford in order to increase their bottom line for the quarter at the cost of the housing market collapsing, to companies like Walmart driving small business from towns all across the United States, the problem is a vast one. We the people are not free from guilt either, as these corporations would not have achieved their success without our support. The overall message of this song is a positive one, however, in that we have the power to improve our situation. Be an informed consumer, avoid giving your business to corporations who support unethical practices, live within your means, and support local businesses whenever possible.
