Details:
Julepâs debut EP, âThis Will Happen Againâ, listens like a summer drive with the windows down and the radio loud, alternately speeding along open highways and grooving into curvy mountain backroads. The husband and wife songwriting duo of Jen Fox and Jim Srnec has assembled a six-song collage of introspective disillusionment, political angst, and personal hope. If you could subtract the alt-countryness from Jenny Lewis and Neko Case, and add back some of the edgier doses of Aimee Mannâs and Liz Phairâs early work, youâll have pulled back the curtain to reveal the tapestry of Julep.

The record charges in with the post punk of âParis to Istanbulâ and grows up in a hurry with âHelen of Troyâ, a mythic second track that migrates from a barely there samba verse into anthemic power pop. With eloquent transitions and delicate balance, Julep blends Foxâs beautifully passionate vocals with complex rhythms, wistful pop, and steering wheel pounding pure rock. Ending with the smooth bounce of âSelfishâ, Julep has you sitting in the driveway refusing to turn off the engine until the last note has died away.

Jen Fox and Jim Srnec formed Julep in 2004, assembling the perfect blend of talent and energy to launch their music into the local scene. Fox fronts the trio by gracefully balancing lead vocals and bass, Jen Trujillo sets the foundation on percussion while delivering soulful harmonies, and Srnecâs guitar expresses shifting mood and attitude.

Jen Fox has been performing since she learned how to talk. With the debut of her first original song for her third grade music class, she has not stopped writing, singing, and playing guitar. Jen became a bass player to round out the family band and to respond to the demand for the token female bassist. She comes from a diversely musical family that covers just about every genre and who exchanges demos and LPs instead of Christmas cards.

When Fox met Jim Srnec, he was diligently honing his guitar skills through sobering performances in stairwells to the enthusiastic support of neighbors. Jimâs Midwest upbringing resonates through his politically passionate lyrics and ability to consume large quantities of beer and still think he can play guitar. Fox found him irascibly cute and, after over 10 years of playing music together, he still canât shake her. In 2003, they began performing as the acoustic duo Cranky, which quickly evolved into Julep.

Jen Trujillo is a multi-talented musician who offered to sit in on the kit after Jason Dean, Julep's original drummer, left for new adventures. Her spot-on vocals, contagious sense of humor, and catchy rythms are a welcome addition to the band. In her spare time, she also fronts the band the Kegels.

Julep enjoyed a busy year with highlights including performances at the Leavenworth Fall Music Festival and Rockr Grl Music Conference, being named âSeattleâs up and coming bandâ by KOHO 101.1 radio station, and making headlines as the featured artist in the Seattle Post-Intelligencer (July 5-12, 2005).

Julep spent the first half of 2006 recording their EP "This will happen again." They look forward to promoting the album in 2007 and setting up a west-coast tour.
