ROCK: Folk Rock, POP: Folky Pop
Details:
The debut release of their CD, Meet the Hooligans of Bohemia, is a zesty musical slice of Jen and the Juiceâs ability to captivate their audience with a pure original sound. Jen also had the pleasure to welcome some of Ashevilleâs A-list musicians to be a part of the juicy 10-track recording.
The first track, Wripples, a low key Latin groove, interweaves the delightful jazz guitar of Libramento with the amazing back-up vocals from Stephanie Morgan (of Stephanieâs Id) and the percussion of Kinq Knapp. After that, the listener is hooked instantly to hear the infectious rhythm and lyrics of It Takes Two also with Stephanie Morgan displaying her skills. The Damn Song erupts into a delicious explosion of melody and harmony as Ryan Cox (guitar) and Bill Cardine (Dobro® ), of The Biscuit Burners, play effortlessly over the vocals of Jen and Valorie Miller. Appalachiaâs favorite, Woody Woods, burns up the acoustic guitar on Willâs Song and I might be Drunk. While Dave Muhlethaler brings his fiddle swing to Bohemian Hooligan, world renown Billy Constable (Sassagrass, Doug Dillard band, Hypnotic Clam Bake, sit ins w String Cheese Incident) rips the strings (times three) on the bluegrass inspired, American Way, playing the guitar, mandolin, and banjo. Libramentoâs jazz guitar gets super sweet on Top Shelf Sugaâ, and Butt Sweat and Beers slams the groove down like itâs crushing a beer can. Finally, Circus Pills features the docile stereophonic effects of Jonathan Bryan (Sound Engineer) and Joe Buzzelli (Producer), and Jen gives a dazzling finger style performance on her guitar while singing, blindfolded, balanced on a tight rope. Always the affluent lyricist,
Jen Greerâs groove-able poetry adds to the emotion and soul of the musical talent that backs up everything she sings about Life, love and the constant pursuit of loving life.
Bio Information:
Greer has been writing and performing original tunes throughout the Southeast for the past 13 years. A native of Mobile, Ala., she first took to the stage at church, performing with her two sisters as The Greer Girls. To appease their dedicated fans, the trio taped their songs on a cheap double-deck boom box and made copies to give away.
In high school, Greer wrote songs with friends and played in bands with names such as Furble Buster & Her Magic Sausage, and Moo Shoo Kitty. As she puts it, We played at the typical places where high school bands play, like coffee houses and church basements. Nevertheless, these venues proved the perfect training ground for a performer. Upon graduating from high school and enrolling in Auburn University, Greer moved up to playing festivals and taprooms, and soon thereafter recorded her first album of 10 songs.
But her two years in Atlanta is when Greer's stage and song-writing craft truly ripened. Here she became a familiar face at open-mic night at venues such as Eddyâs Attic, Red Light Café and Smithâs Old Bar, often taking home open-mic prizes. Performing before such large audiences gave her a renewed confidence, and working with other musicians helped her hone her song-writing skills. "I made a lot of musical friends in Atlanta who influenced my style, teaching me jazzy chords and urban rhythms to blend with my folk sound," she says.In 2002, Greer moved to Asheville, N.C., a town thatâs known for its live music scene. In the spring of 2003, she soon hooked up with Clint Weninegar and Neil Hendrix and Jen & the Juice was born. The trio â along with Joe Cain on percussion â recorded the first Jen & the Juice album that summer in a friendâs bedroom, and the demo helped them land gigs throughout Western North Carolina. The group has evolved into the snowball of energy and disturbingly appealing music that quickly catching speed and grabbing the attention of many music lovers.
Michael Libramento (lead guitar), is studying jazz at UNCA. Today this multi-instrumentalist is proficient on the guitar, bass and drums/percussion. His amazing
performances captivate audiences. Many find it insane how well he can play a right handed guitar left handedly. In addition to playing with Jen & the Juice, Libramento performs regularly at UNCA and at solo shows around town.
Clint Weninegar (upright bass, guitar, mandolin and fiddle) is an amazingly intuitive, wildly intelligent and radically diverse player active in great local bands such as County Farm, Grassoline, and Sassagrass.
Joe Buzzelli (drums) an instinctively clever and insanely creative drummer and percussionist packing fresh beats from D.C. and beyond. He performs in Red and the Unknowns as well as a slew of concert, jazz and percussion ensembles at UNCA, where he studies jazz.
