First of all I am very excited to finally be sharing my songs with the Universe and I want to thank each and every person who listens to my songs for their time. HEY---GUITAR is my first CD and I could have never even begun this project without my friend and producer Chip Martin. We both put every emotion we have into every song-------as you, the listener, will immediately hear. I write all my songs straight from my heart and I sing them directly from my soul.
The one word description I would use for these 16 songs is âcelebratoryâ. Despite all the ups and downs akin to an emotional rollercoaster...the songs are, after all, the truth about my life as well as my brief five week sojourn to the afterlife, which I talk about in IâVE BEEN THERE. I know that I am indeed very fortunate to have been allowed to come back from that place in order to share my hopes, dreams and personal triumphs as well as my defeats with you---the listener. IN HIS BAND talks about my many family members as well as friends and fellow musicians and songwriters who have already gone on to that special place and continue to watch over us, all the while playing in his bandâ¦â¦â¦â¦â¦â¦â¦. GOD is truly smiling on themâ¦â¦..âtappinâ feet and clappinâ handsâ just as the song says.
I am of what I speak in EDUCATED REDNECK. Just a country boy who went to schoolâ¦. but has never forgotten his roots. Growing up in rural Texas in the 50âs and 60âs afforded me the opportunity to be influenced by many monumental artists, whom I refer to at my website(www.jerryleesurber.com)....... Buddy Holly, Waylon Jennings, Roger Miller just to name a few who grew up in the same locale as me and were major influences on my songwriting and playing. The Texas Panhandle has always been a breeding ground for storytellers and musicians and I am very happy to be continuing this tradition. My hometown of Shamrock, Texas lies 93 miles east of Amarillo and is also the hometown of fellow songwriter Bill Mack---who has been a DJ in Texas for well over 50 yearsâand wrote the song BLUE, recorded by Leanne Rimes which launched her career. I still call Bill my friendâ¦â¦..even after all these years. He can be found on the XM Satellite radio network (www.billmackcountry.com) and will be playing my songs. Of this I have no doubt.
I appreciate youâall listening to these first sixteen(16) songs. Rest assuredâ¦.there are many more where they came from and I am more than happy to share all of them with you.
So put this CD in your player and turn it up!!!!
Letâs all have a peaceful and happy Holiday seasonâ¦.from the ever-optimistic songwritinâ Jer dude (the dude abides)
