FOLK: Folk Pop, ROCK: Folk Rock
Details:
Cat Jahnke ('yä[ng]-kE)
There are ideas that are more frightening, more amusing, more thought-provoking when described than when merely mentioned. For our benefit or to our loss, Cat Jahnke manages to bring these images to life, seamlessly blending the prospect of future loss with a genuine contentment in the here and now. Her sincere and haunting delivery keeps these bristles, thorns and spikes scratching our hearts for days on end and discouraging the sandman every evening, but luckily Cat's nightmare of losing the muse has been evaded in all but the deepest of her REM cycles.
The proof of an enduring relationship with the occasionally fickle Inspiration is unmistakably evident on Cat's first full-length CD, "None Of Those Things". This collection of sometimes somber, sometimes feisty tunes is a concoction of years of extensive classical training and a daily crash course in pop culture, which will no doubt be palatable to an assortment of tastes. Already a seasoned traveler, Cat has brought this unique sound to numerous Canadian cities, and besides learning to carry a guitar and a suitcase in the same hand, she has had the opportunity to be the focus of several press highlights (including radio, television and print media).
Having successfully polished the Canadian cobblestones, Cat Jahnke is dangling over the brink of International discovery. With the support of Manitoba Film and Sound and a crew of brilliant musicians, None Of Those Things is sure to be the Cat's breakout album.
WINNER: 2006 168 Hour Film festival - Hollywood, CA ⢠Best Original Score for the film "Free Of Charge" - Directed by Robert Kirbyson
FINALIST: 2005 International Songwriting Competition
