JMK

JMK (Jason Matthew Kirschner) is a multi instrumentalist currently residing in the Okanagan Valley, B.C., Canada. He has amassed a large collection of songs and will now record and release his original projects in regular succession.

On JMK's self titled debut album he takes the listeners on a very eclectic and unique musical journey. His influences expand all over the musical map and it really comes out in the music.

A Description of the Music on this Album

Funky, experimental and sometimes psychedelic, progressive rock (with a bit of a dark edge but also a comedic sarcastic edge at times as well). The album contains elements of many different things smushed together in unique JMK fashion.

But please, call it what ever you want.

The Album

The album was recorded at Image Audio in Vernon, BC with engineer/co-producer Jeff Long. JMK plays every instrument in all songs (besides the bass drum programing in one song and some mini moog in another).

Instruments used on the album - drums, percussion, bass, keyboards, piano, trumpet, mini moog, bouzouki, guitar and vocals.

Joining JMK on the album was the poetic singing of female vocalist Starr-ella Brunelle. Starr-ella sings back up vocals on two songs and lead vocals on another two (which she wrote herself).

A Brief Musical History of JMK

J's love for creating music started as a little kid when he would play on his Grandmother's piano and organ.

At the age of 10 J formed his first band, Bezzez. They created two albums, Bezzez Thrash and Slow Motion. "We had a tape recorder and filled two cassettes full of what we thought were masterpieces. We would then rent the cassettes out to kids at school for 25 cents a day."

A few years later J would embark on his delusional teenage journey as he became obsessed with being a rapper.

Between the ages of 13 and 17 J wrote hundreds of songs and was a part of two more bands, "The Lyrical Phat Heads" and "Da Den Dawgs."

But by 17 J's musical interests changed dramatically. His yearning to play different instruments and create different kinds of music started to flourish.

At 18 J decided the first instrument he would play seriously would be the drums. At this period of his life he made a new group of friends all with the same yearning to create music and jam. Which leads us to J's next band "Chico Verra."

"The time in Chico Verra was a great musical time for me. It was the beginning of playing drums in a band, of learning stuff on guitar and keyboards and most importantly, it was the beginning of my love for playing the bass."

But as time pasts Chico Verra would stop playing together and J would allow the working world to take over his life. "I had a few years of being a workaholic/alcoholic and just didn't put much time at all into my music."

But one day that all changed and J jumped back to the creative musical life in full throttle. "I started spending all my time creating music again but this time I started to think more in a way of creating full finished projects."

When J amassed a large collection of songs he decided that it was time to start recording and he did just that. Which of course leads us to this, his debut album.
