COUNTRY: Country Rock, ROCK: Rockabilly
Details:
Sprawling From East Nashville, joshua black wilkinsâ blend of American music is helping define the new âalternative countryâ sound. Taking from influences in country music as much as punk rock, and early rock and roll, Joshuaâs new band ep Pretty as a Junkyard bridges the gap from his Angryson Records 2004 release Hellbent and Brokenhearted and his live sound that grew from the addition of Rich Gilbert (Frank Black and the Catholics, Blackstone Valley Sinners) on guitar and petal steel. Not only did Rich Gilbert play on the EP, he was the sole producer as well.
Although sonically different than Hellbent and Brokenhearted, Pretty as a Junkyard still captures the essence of the songwriting of joshua black wilkins and adds the force that he brings on stage and to the studio. Recorded by Scott McEwen on a recently purchased 2â tape machine formally belonging to Jim Diamond of Detroit fame (White stripes, Detroit Cobras, Iggy and the Stooges), the attitude of the live shows was finally put to tape. Pretty as a Junkyard was self released in October 2oo6.
Joshua Black Wilkins can be seen, and heard, on the road throughout 2006 and into 2007, both with the band and solo, in support of Pretty as a Junkyard as well as taking the time to finish his long awaited solo acoustic record, titled Sparebedrooms. The Band also has every intention of recording the full-length follow-up to Pretty as a Junkyard starting in the winter 2006-7 season.
