Jesse Thomason has been writing and performing songs for 11 years with various bands and artists. During the last 6 years he has released 3 E.P.s, written over 30 songs, toured throughout Texas and established Infiltrate Records as his own independent label for releasing records and self-promotion. The two singles from his second release âSay the Wordsâ and âBroken Moldâ were placed on the compilation for the National AIDS Awareness Group âHopeâs Voiceâ, which will be touring college campuses nationwide in 2006.
He performs as a solo Acoustic/ Electric act, creating ambience and atmosphere that cascades into explosive moments- reminiscent of Jeff Buckley, David Gray, and Sting. Intricate finger style guitar lines and strong vocal delivery coincide to define his sound. His repertoire consists of original songs as well as covers from a wide array of classic and contemporary rock songs. With his latest self-titled E.P. he plans to tour the Western United States building a fan-base and bringing his music to new places.
âI live my life in a dynamic relationship with my songs⦠I often sit down with my guitar and a song will write itself to me as a message. The words come from a place of depth that I do not understand, and time usually brings me back to that song to see it as a prophetic or clairvoyant guide.
One such occurrence was when I wrote the song âWildflowerâ at 17 years old. This is a song about a betrayal and restoration through forgiveness and the power of love. At the time, I wanted to express the depths of my heart in seeing what forgiveness in a relationship can do. I was inspired by a dear friend of mine, and through the process I wrote a song that speaks so much more clearly to me now-10 years later.
I went through a divorce recently, and the words to the song I had written as a 17 year old boy were the words I needed to push me through as a 26 year old man. When this happened it was if the song was a script for the events that happened in my marriage, and consequently everyone that knows my circumstance immediately resolves to think that I wrote the song for my Ex-wife. This is not the case- the song was just speaking to me a long time ago, preparing meâ¦
I believe in the power of music through focused songwriting, and being true to oneself as a songwriter. I am what you might call a dreamer- as I record and document my dreams and have often seen them come to pass. As a natural result, I often write songs about my dreams, though I know this isnât something entirely original. Yet, they are my songs and my expression to the world of who I am and as time has shown me, who I may becomeâ¦
I grew up listening to all types of music from Led Zepplin, Jimi Hendrix, The Beatles to The Cure, SoundGarden, Pearl Jam and The Smiths. I have been described as an artist in the vein of Jeff Buckley, David Gray and Damien Rice. This is a compliment to me as I highly respect these artists, but it took me a while to get out of the slump of comparing myself with other artists and asking the question âWhere do I fit into all of this?â This question prompted a new song that addressed my issue of struggling to believe in my art within a vast sea of artists. Or rather, can I make a living doing this when there are so many people doing it? Are my songs good enough?
Obviously my resolve is that if I never gave it everything I had- be it blood, sweat, money and tears, I would go down not knowing whether I could have made a living in the music business or not, and that would be a pathetic shameâ¦
I have nothing, and yet everything, to lose in pursuit of my dreams. My songs express my passion for life in all of its pleasure and pain. I have yet to find something more rewarding than playing my songs for people and seeing and feeling the connection that it creates. I believe.â
