An avant-punk âDark Side Of The Moonâ, invoking the tech-rock artistry of Mars Volta and the stadium majesty of Led Zeppelin... Fans of indie through to progressive rock will find a lot to like here.
10 MP3 Songs
ROCK: Progressive Rock, ROCK: Modern Rock
Details:
THE APPROACH are an avant-rock trio from Vancouver, Canada that consists of Marty Rollins (The Red Light Sting, Closed Caption Radio), Steve Elliott and Daryl Kirkham (both of the Donkey Engine). Their combination of economy, dynamics, and drive, create equations that wind their way to satisfying, moody, and powerful conclusions. Ignoring stylistic orthodoxy in favour of innovation, their compositions are often pithy and elegant.
Playing together since 2002, the groupâs three members take the standard guitar-bass-drums format into an unconventional realm and are garnering fast acclaim for their incendiary live shows. And, with the addition of strings, samples, and a discriminate use of keys, they have created seamless recorded works that present a refreshing tech-rock artistry.
Their first studio album âWings of Monarchsâ released by Flyer Records topped Canadian university stations such as CITR and CHSR for numerous weeks. Their much anticipated second album âSafe as Housesâ, which features the vocal stylings of Gregory Adams (The Red Light Sting) and Lyn Heinemann (Portico) was released in November 2006. Three songs from the album have recently been licensed for national broadcast on the CBC series âMake Some Noiseâ.
