CAREER HIGHLIGHTS:
"Silky" began her musical career at the age of 4 when she won a talent contest at her Texas church. Since then, she has made numerous appearances at top venues such as New York's Rainbow Room and popular resorts while on tour with the Lionel Hampton Orchestra as their "Guest Vocalist." Other upscale venues include Boston's Copley Plaza and Ritz Carlton Hotels. Two of her most memorable moments were her performance at Hilton Head for President Ronald Reagan with the Lionel Hampton Orchestra, and performance with the legendary Miles Davis. She also performed at New York's Sweetwaters, Studio 54, Don't Tell Mama as well as Prince's Grand Slam, The White Party at Vizcaya and many others.
Her international credits include "Sold Out" performances in Germany, England and Zurich, Switzerland. She performed at the Canadian Music Festival, Toronto, Canada.
"Silky" has performed at various resorts such as The Breakers of Palm Beach, Boca Raton Polo Club, Boca Raton Resort & Club, Governors Club and the Ocean Grand Hotel in Palm Beach. The SunFest and the Montreaux Jazz Festival. Silky made a special appearance at Donald Trump's Mar-A-Lago, where she "brought down the house" during her special appearance. She also did a special engagement for Ivana Trump at the Intercontinental Hotel.
She has made numerous appearances throughout the United States and abroad.
SERIOUS ACCOLADES:
"Silky is one of the greatest vocalists on the music scene," LIONEL HAMPTON
"She brings to life the Great Ladies of Music: Bessie Smith, Miss Billie Holiday, Sarah Vaughn, Ella Fitzgerald and many others," NEW YORK TIMES
"Silky is an outstanding performer using her voice as a magnificent instrument," VARIETY
"Though some believe the art of the great Jazz vocalists is, if not dead, at least sickly, Ruth "Silky" Waters proves It Ain't Necessarily So!" OCEAN DRIVE MAGAZINE
ABOUT THIS CD:
Gold and Gold & Associates, Inc. proudly presents
Ruth "Silky" Waters
"Silky" is a very unique artist in all sense of the word. As a proud native of the Texas, "Silky" has the unique gift of commanding attention whenever she performs. Due to her distinctive sound and style "Silky" has earned such labels as "Queen of Emotion" and "Song Stylist Extraordinaire."
One of our favorite songs on this CD is "Silky's" rendition of "Georgia On My Mind" (a tribute to the late Ray Charles), which she recorded prior to his death. It's indeed ironic that Miami's own Richard Williams, an accomplished musician who has been blind since childhood, accompanied her on piano. "What A Wonderful World" (another of our favorites on this CD) was produced and arranged by her oldest son, Woodie. "Silky" had the pleasure of working with Mike Gerber, a blind classical pianist and native New Yorker to give this song new life.
We have revisited several cuts from her first two albums --- #5 and #6 on "Never Gonna Be The Same" (RCA Recordings) and the romantic but sultry "Ain't Never Been A Love Like This One" which was on the sound track for "The Woman Inside" (award winner at the Cannes Film Festival). This particular song was included on her "Out In The Open" (Midsong International) album.
Her debut album "Never Gonna Be The Same" was recorded at the height of the dance era and was an instant hit charting Top 25 on Billboard and Record World.
We are indeed excited about this new project. "Silky" delivers with her unique blend of class, style and sophistication. This is evident when listening to both versions of "As We Fall In Love Once More" (version two arranged by George Tandy, a young producer from Florida).
"Silky's" performance of music by Duke Ellington, the "Blues Medley", and "My Funny Valentine" garnered her performances and tour appearances with the Lionel Hampton Orchestra, Miles Davis, and Freddie Hubbard.
Her versatility and what "Silky" labels her "gift from God" enables her to sing from her heart and soul. She has and continues to delight audiences nationally and internationally.
We at GGA thank you for participating on this musical journey with us. Sit back, relax and enjoy the talent we all know as "Silky".
