Details:
This CD is played entirely by Donald Rubinstein, combining lyric oriented folk tunes with avante classical and jazz.
"DEVOID OF TRANSITORY TRENDINESS"
Los Angeles Times
"...somewhat like an alternative Dylan, but for me, most interesting are the several modern classical music tracks. Now, what I mean by classical is the short, dramatic, jutting sounds of sudden drums, trilling piano notes, an eclectic coffee blend of a smell you don't know, a tune that on first hearing isn't there. But it's there. And though instrumental, you listen as if it's full of words. Imagine Zappa's Lumpy Gravy, and you'll know what Donald means by 'End of the Trail' and 'Lonely Try'. A very interesting blend, these two styles. Never heard the modern folk and the modern classical put together so close. Again like Zappa, I hope Donald finds his niche between markets, because with each genre, he produces some small gems."
Ben Omhart, Music Zone
ALWAYS UNPREDICTABLE...DEEP ROOTED ARTISTIC INSPIRATION ANYTHING BUT TYPICAL!
Nerissa Pacio, UCLA Bruin
"Rubinstein conjures up images of a true bohemian...in the fashion of Kerouac of Ginsberg in their prime! But it is with his music that he fascinates and captures our interest. His songs are haunting in text and blend jazz, blues, folk and soul in their rendering. His sad, sultry, slightly raspy voice has the quality of a man worn down, The sounds and images linger long after."
Dave DePino, DRAMALOGUE
Donald Rubinstein's most recent CD, "Ruby Star," is available exclusively at The Museum of Modern Art, New York City.
