Details:
âResonator are cool. Very American, in a good way. Fans of thoughtful, spirited instrumental rock will find a lot to like here. Pell Mell sounded a little like this for about seven months in 1982.â - Steve Fisk (Sub Pop / Pell Mell / Producer)
âLost Languageâ is a commanding album made by real people. Totally unique in design and execution, this record is a breath of fresh air. It inspires images of open spaces, expressions of love and hope, the geography of the adirondacks and, most importantly, triumph of the spirit over materialism. Hailing from Plattsburgh, NY, Resonator recorded âLost Languageâ on a farm in an old granary.
Resonator strives to speak in a language without words - to communicate the unspoken experiences of life through music. This is the conceptual framework of âLost Languageâ. The voice of the band is generated from the heart in a gesture of sharing that is absent of popular media devices.
âPlattsburgh, NYâs proximity to the post-rock Mecca of Montréal is reflected in Resonator's dramatic and atmospheric style. But to dismiss the band as clones of their better-known neighbors is to do them a great disservice.â
- Chris Miller, Seven Days, Burlington, VT
The group's unique sound makes it hard to compare the band to anyone.
Short Bio:
Resonator is a voice. The trio is formed by Trevor Cole (bass), Larry Dolan (guitar) and Mikey Lemieux (drums). Our music is a form of collaborative expression. We strive to convey our impressions of the world around us in language that is our own, but understandable to anyone willing to listen.
We believe that music can break down the barriers that separate us from one another socially and culturally. We invite you to listen and encourage you to be heard.
Our recorded songs are developed through reworkings of improvisations. The moment is our writing tool. Our songs are structured models of the original improv with some additional tweaks. In a live setting these songs are subject to variations, expansions, and contractions in response to the energy and participation of the audience. We believe the live music experience is the most important medium for musical broadcast and response. It is a tactile human environment in a world that is increasingly devoid of human to human interaction.
We live outside of Plattsburgh, NY. We hope you'll come visit sometime, we love it here.
Notes of Interest:
Guitarist, Larry Dolan grew up in Morrisonville, NY. He attended American University in Washington DC for Audio Engineering, but dropped out when he fell in love with his wife Les and moved back to Plattsburgh, NY. In 1998, Larry was an Olympian for Luge. He has also played with Lack Of..., Todd Larry Lloyd, and Sean Clute, performing primarily in the Northeast and rather extensively in Manhattan. He also composed a modern score (with Todd Recore and Nate Derr) that was performed live to the 1925 film Metropolis (this project was officially selected for the 2002 NY International Independent Film Festival). He recently produced the album âResurfaceâ by Tides (Teenage Disco Bloodbath Records) and owns the Granary Studio. He is currently getting a BA/BS in History and Anthropology. He gets money from Government loans to pay the bills.
Bassist, Trevor Cole grew up near Massena, NY on the edge of the Akwesansne Indian Reservation. Trevor attended SUNY Plattsburgh where he received his BA in Anthropology and is currently getting a BA in Environmental Science. He has been a member of The Dying Game Theory and Husk. With these bands he toured the Northeast extensively and he has had a number of releases. Trevor is on the board of directors for the New Land Trust in Saranac, NY and besides going to school and getting money from the Government like Larry, he sells organic foods at the North Country
Co-Op to pay the bills.
Drummer, Mikey Lemieux grew up in Rouses Point, NY after being born in Montreal, Canada. He was a member of the bands Perfect Salesman and Drowningman (Equal Vision, Revelation Records). He filled the drumming position for Resonator in May of 2005 and has brought a new found intensity to the music. He has done quite a bit of touring with his former bands and has played some pretty big shows including the Warped Tour and Hell Fest. Mikey sells records at Peacock Music and sets up guitars for Garrison Guitars to pay the Bills.
