Power-pop flavored with Hooks and harmony, blended with roots rock and quirky punk
14 MP3 Songs
POP: Power Pop, ROCK: Roots Rock
Details:
The debut album "In Touch" was recorded 1991-1995, with tracks produced by Jeff Scott & Mark - an eclectic mix of pop music incorporating many styles both musically and lyrically. Many of the tracks were recorded or in pre-production during the time (1991-1993) that Mark "Scrubby" fronted Washington-DC based garage band "The Hooks", along with bassist/songwriter Luis "Weez" Gutierrez and a Spinal Tap-like rotating cast of drummers.
Classic power pop "hits" (Donna, Exactly, Take A Chance) to harder but still melodic grunge/punk/techno tracks (Whirlwind, Shades of Gray)...elements of roots rock, folk & country (Melanie, In Your Heart), funk rock (Reel Em In, The Dark) and as well as several cross-genre and quirky "novelty" type songs (Texas Boots, Voyeur). You'll also find forays into instrumental soundtrack (Another's Joy) and ethnic folk-pop/orchestral(Stranger Land)
The album features primarly instrumental and vocal work by Renburke (formerly Renne-Burke) with additional keyboards & drum programming by Jeff Scott. Several tracks were recording and mixed at Movin Up Studio in Rockville, MD and feature the patented Sound Sucking(TM) Technology. The rest were recorded & mixed at In Touch Studio in Nagoya, Japan.
Mark's follow-up album (self-titled) was released in 2005, and explores new territory with elements of Celtic/Irish folk and Jazz/Blues/Bluegrass, and features many talented guest musicians including Material Issue's Ted Ansani and Irish singer-songwriter Brian Cullen. Look for it on Not Lame Recordings, Tower Records, and here on CD Baby: http://www.cdbaby.com/renburke
