laptop cut-ups of rock and folk guitar layered with analogue synths, glitchy lofi drum programming and faraway vocal scapes
11 MP3 Songs
ELECTRONIC: Experimental, ROCK: Instrumental Rock
Details:
Based in Brisbane, Australia, Restream is a producer with an interest in cutups of live recordings made using vintage guitars and synthesizers. Loops for stereogram is not, however a record defined by its methods like many albums bridging the gap between samples/electronica and live music.
Though there are ideas from laptop music, glitch and abstact hiphop, this album is about songs, epics more often than not, with a firm focus on harmonies and textures more than the intricacies of beat science.
Recorded over three years at lofly studios, lovingly degraded loops of live playing and vocals multiply and divide covering ground as diverse as ulrich schnauss, my bloody valentine, boards of canada, bowie, sparklehorse and fourtet. Loopsforstereogram corresponds to a computer artist wringing life out of computers, repeating the improvised, integrating the indie record collection with the electronic. The result is a lush and sentimental record not really of any era, with quiet bleepy bedroom guitar strums opening up into vast saturated spaces.
Restream has achieved the goal to which every debut strives, an album full of beautiful songs with a unique sound, destined to be be part of a catalogue of new music bridging the gap between rock and samples, playing and programming, old and new.
