Details:
I was born and raised in Nashville, TN, and began my professional music career in 1975 when I began working with Mac Gayden who wrote such hits as âEverlasting Loveâ and âShe Shot a Hole in my Soulâ. While with Mac, I worked in several major recording studios, as doing live performances and road work with other major artists. We also recorded an album titled âHymn to the Seekerâ on ABC records. On the bandâs final night we played in Nashville, TN, at The Exit Inn, a local club. It was at this performance that I was heard by a local publisher/producer, Audie Ashworth. Audie at the time managed JJ Cale, which was in need of a bass player. Audie asked me if I would audition for the position. After auditioning I was hired by JJ Cale in January 1977 and at that time things really took off.
With Cale, major touring and extensive recording began. The albums that I played on with JJ Cale are Shades, Grasshopper, Number 5, and Number 10. Also in conjunction with Cale is the DVD âJJ Cale in "Session at the Paradise Studiosâ featuring Leon Russell. To date I continue to remain in contact with JJ and work with him occasionally.
It was while working with Cale I had the opportunity to work with other artists including Joe Cocker, Eric Clapton, Ringo Starr, Eddie Money and, at the time, an up and coming singer/songwriter Don Schlitz. I was asked by Don to play on the original recording of âThe Gamblerâ recorded by Kenny Rogers.
Currently, I am working with Gary Lewis & The Playboys. I also write and record in my home studio and have my own cover band called âThe Shadesâ The band plays classic Rock-n-Roll from the â60âs, â70âs & â80âs
