Description:

(ID 1416810)
Raso's debut album is a space-age funk-filled journey.

9 MP3 Songs
URBAN/R&B: Funk, JAZZ: Acid Jazz

Details:
"Bassist Jason Raso debuts with a one-man band project designed to showcase his considerable talent on the lower register. The obvious reference point here is Bootsy Collins, as Raso switches between slapping style, synth-y 80's funk and melodic bass playing. The Bassman Cometh is entirely instrumental and Raso's challenge is to make the music interesting beyond appreciation of his expert technique. He succeeds."

Nightlife Magazine 01-17-02

"It takes some imagination and chops to carry an album that features only bass guitar. Jason Raso has enough of both to keep the listener's attention on the appropriately named The Bassman Cometh. While students of the instrument will no doubt find the most to like about Raso's debut, anyone easily drawn to a slippery groove will find The Bassman Cometh to their liking."

Echo Magazine 02-06-02

"Although conforming to a drum machine, the multi-timbrel-like prancing of Jason Raso's bass is a full-on orchestra of ground vibrating pleasure. He funkifies the instrument to the max, and then he allows for moments of rest when things shift into swanky sultry lounge mode. A universal feel that can comfortably place this disc inside stereos in restaurants and bars, as well as providing the perfect spice to various television programming elements."

Exclaim Magazine 04-12-02

BIO:
If it can be played on the bass, Jason Raso is your man: from jazz to blues and on down the line into funk and rock, heâs got a handle on it. Raso has paid his dues, mastering musical theory, various playing techniques, and the guts of any number of musical genres. Although it would be easy to focus on Rasoâs technique, itâs the emotion and sheer energy of the music that will have you sit up and pay attention to his compositions. Each has a life and feel all its own with Raso utilizing slap, tapping, palm muting, and plucking to set the mood. No stranger to the live music scene, Raso has over 250 gigs under his belt. With his newly formed trio, he hopes to see that number rise. Rasoâs past work includes The Bassman Cometh (2001), Live on Planet Bop (2002), and the recently released Detour (2005).
