Details:
The Ras General, an African, was born to a Nigerian military family in the eastern part of the
country. A multi talented guy who found passion in sports, music, writing, acting and poetry.
He and his three other brothers formed a musical group, a very militant reggae outfit called, âThe Rasta Officersâ, which he led, writing songs, and fronting on the microphone as the lead singer. The group recorded songs, played gigs and had their own share of the ups and downs of show biz as a young musical family.
The Ras General, a front line Rastaman, moved to Ghana where he joined the twelve tribes of Israel and collaborated with another militant Rastaman, Original Ras Korby(who had come in from the UK at the time), to form and front another outfit called the Nazarite vow band. The wild and militant duo performed alongside many local and international artistes, including notable Jamaican top guns such as Yesus Afari, Mutabaruka, Don Carlos, Buju Banton, Rita Marley,Joseph Hills(Culture),etc. and also recorded a lot of songs, including an album marketed by German-based Kelele records.
He later relocated to the United States where he presently resides and has voiced for a few
Jamaican and other producers. He also at one point opened for the legendary Tooths and the Maytals in upstate New York.
The Ras General acts, writes songs, stories, movie scripts, and poetry(over 300 poems). Besides being published in many poetry books and the internet, he has won many awards for outstanding performance in poetry, including the international library of poetryâs poet of merit award. His music genre is a combination of hardcore reggae and dancehall and he does not hesitate to use his lyrics to paint the true position and image of the society we call ours. Though he tries to soften the aggressiveness of his lyrics, his message remains a pillar of consciousness. A true General and in his own words, âI am the Ras General, Commander-in-Chief of the unarmed forces of the peopleâs army. I do not depend on the tax payer for my uniform and boots. I wear my own uniform and my own boots and I march in the fore front with Jah and truth as my shield and armor, as we are confident in the victory of good over evil. The wicked shall eat dirt.
This cd is a full sixteen track effort which promises something for everyone, and we sincerely believe it is difficult for one not to find at least a track that appeals to one, from politics to love, to youthful dancehall and even to religion. A combination of materials recorded in Africa and produced by producer, Lord Shaba Du and those recorded in the US and produced by another veteran, Osborne âI feelâ Joseph. A song like âSo, so rebelsâ, deals with the constant rise of rebels and the effects of war and politics in Africa, while song like âNuclear weaponâ, clearly deals with the issue the trouble in the middle east and the world over and the menace of nuclear weapon and manâs craziness to destroy the world. Those who love poetry have something to enjoy. There is something for the young and the old alike and we think that the younger fans will enjoy tracks like digi digi dong, flash it(which deals with the way girls flash their breasts and other parts of their bodies without a care), the sexy voice of the young womanâs hook, âI love to flash it, it makes me sexy. I love to flash it, and Iâm so hornyâ, provoking. Family hierarchy talks about the American family hierarchy, which as against other cultures of the world, has woman as number
one, child as number two, dog number three, every other thing before the man, whoâs last. That, of course, is the artistâs opinion but youâll love the presentation and rendition. Donât take our word for it. Check it out for yourself.
