His bluesy/country and western sounding tunes were packed to the gills with raw emotion set to a toe-tapping, edgy beat.... Ryan exudes ease and confidence on stage and listening to his songs is like riding an emotional roller coaster.

BLUES: Acoustic Blues, COUNTRY: Modern Country

Americana UK Review
Winchester boy OâReilly is only 19 but my is he talented. Performer with his band âThe Raindogsâ, this CD displays his ear for writing a fine tune, and whilst most of it is just him and a guitar, it doesnât sound as sparse as initially expected.
Most first self produced albums tend to be a little desperate in their output. Probably as a result of all those years of pent up musical frustration and then, when given the chance to get it all out onto record, the dross also pours out. And songs that sound great in the head donât always translate well onto vinyl. However this isnât the case with OâReilly.
This album covers love (as ever), girls (not necessarily as the love interest), betrayal, and the usual subjects close to a nineteen year olds heart. Some of which are not necessarily as obvious as you may think; âIn My Time of Dyinâ (as recorded by Joshua White, Dylan and Led Zep) anyone ?
âMidnight trainâ, âNatalieâ and âLast Years Bluesâ display OâReillyâs ability to sing sad, mournful blues whilst sounding like heâs been doing it for the past 60 years. For a young man heâs surprisingly melancholic. Iâm sure heâs much happier once you get to know him.
Half of the 13 tracks were recorded in Toronto and a couple written with Tyler Kyte (Canadian actor) which are as recorded. No overdubs, just live in the studio. And they work. âTired of Waitingâ and âNowhere to be Foundâ again follow the trail of lost loves, whilst also showboating two guitarists who obviously enjoy their work.
âI Know Iâll Have Nightmaresâ (Live) is the stand out track. Along with âI Liked Her Smile The Bestâ it sums up his whole ethos to what heâs trying to do. Simple sparse songs with a good melody, sung well and just a guitar to enhance the ambience. Excellent.
Shamefully OâReilly is currently unsigned. This should be rectified immediately.
Pick up a copy of this CD at the website, or alternatively go and see him in the Winchester area, or before he gets even bigger in Dublin, and pick up a copy of the CD at the live shows.
