Classic songwriting in the form of Neil Finn, Paul Weller, and Nick Drake.
12 MP3 Songs
ROCK: Acoustic, POP: Beatles-pop
Details:
Ross is a Sydney-based singer/songwriter, freelance musician & producer, having performed and worked with a number of bands and duos.
Ross comes from a staunchly working background and his music has been self-taught and self-motivated. He completed a music-major within an arts degree, and took piano lessons and piano hire as a young adult.
Ross loves the passion and fervour of Paul Weller..."Weller has worked for what he's got, I believe in that...it's funny when I read a biography on Weller because I notice we have a lot in common: similar personality types, our dads were both brickies and mums were cleaners, our dads had 'big' grey hair, and we both grew up in a Victorian terrace on a main road - my mum still lives there now."
Ross also has a sensitive side. "I used to love Nick Drake but now I enjoy his music at face value, I think I got too deeply into it and it did a number on my head. More recently Eva Cassidy has come to be my greatest musical hero, the sort of person she was, and that earthy/healing quality in her music, which was sort of perfect. That's a quality I like to maintain in my music-making."
And of Ross' own music??
"...really my influences are found in the musicality. My lyrics are influenced by everything really, there is a sharp poetic bent I suppose, but plenty of melody and chord changes! I think 'Ride' is your classic pop/rock song, 'Sea in June' is my favourite for its delicacy, that musically was influenced by 'Adiemus: Songs of Sanctuary', a slight Islander feel. These songs are on my forthcoming CD 'Sea in June'.
I feel my music will be reaching a lot of people."
Ross is currently working with the Brigette Ember Duo, who with Brigette are developing an Eva Cassidy Acoustic show. Other albums Ross has been involved with are 'Candlewood' and Velvet Road's 'Saturday Morning'.
Ross does solo gigs around Sydney and likes to throw in covers which he feels he now "owns", such as 'You do something to me' by Paul Weller, 'Plaza' by Don Walker, 'Tristesse' by the Church, 'Come a long way' by Kate McGarrigle etc etc.
Ross's other interests include earth issues, alternative media, nature, botany, cafes & parks, walking and health, good beer, and acoustic guitars ("mixing earth with music, perfect!"). Ross dislikes television, mass media, and populist sports.
ROSS LOVES AUSTRALIAN-MADE ACOUSTIC GUITARS!!!
