Mostly mainstream jazz guitar but with some modern jazz guitar influences also, Royce Campbell playes two tunes each with many of the legends of jazz guitar including Pat Martino, Larry Coryell, John Abercrombie, Bucky Pizzarelli and Dave Stryker.
10 MP3 Songs
JAZZ: Traditional Jazz Combo, JAZZ: Bebop
Details:
Jazz guitarist Royce Campbellâs âSix by Sixâ, which features Campbell performing duets (with rhythm section) with some of most legendary guitarists in jazz history: Pat Martino, John Abercrombie, Larry Coryell and Bucky Pizzarelli, and Dave Stryker is quickly becoming a major jazz guitar event of historical value.
The stylistic diversity of the players from Pizzarelliâs traditional approach to Abercrombieâs more modern style allows Campbell to exhibit his own versatility.
The reviewer of the LA Daily News said about the CD, âwe can safely declare this the best jazz guitar album of the year.â âSix by Sixâ spent an impressive 16 weeks on the jazz radio charts, reaching number 5, and Jim Wilkie, host of nationally syndicated public radio jazz show âJazz after Hours,â added it to his list of the yearâs best jazz CDs.
Though it is extremely rare that a jazz guitar recording is featured in a non-jazz publication, âSix by Sixâ has received features in Guitar One Magazine and Vintage Guitar Magazine which is further proof of what a historical guitar event this recording has become.
